OverviewRES is currently accepting applications for a Designer / Engineer I in its Columbus, OH or Pittsburgh, PA offices.The mission: to support a growing, multi-disciplinary team of ecosystem restoration designers and engineers currently working on some of the nations largest rivers, streams, and wetland restoration projects! We take pride in the work that we do and we make appropriate decisions to produce a well-performing project, so we are looking for a SUSTAINABILITY ENTHUSIAST and an EFFECTIVE TEAM PLAYER, capable of contributing to this process. What your day-to-day might look like?30% of your time, you will be on the field, assisting with Geomorphic, biological, and ecological site assessments. You will be also assisting in mitigation crediting field protocols elaboration, and fluvial geomorphic/hydraulic surveys.35% of the time, you will be supporting the team in Data Processing and issuing some pieces of Technical Writing! The team usually will need support on restoration design process documentation, written portions of proposals, regulatory permit applications, and post-construction monitoring reports related to restoration design and some mitigation crediting calculations. Be ready to showcase your communication skills during the interview, including providing a writing sample.35% of your time, you will be designing! The team will need support on discharge selection design and development of design metrics into a 3-dimensional design with the Autodesk Civil 3D environment. You will be extensively using AutoCAD to produce plans and develop preliminary, final, and construction restoration plan sets, so AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is a valuable plus.QualificationsMinimum qualifications: Bachelors degree and 1 to 3+ years experience in a natural resources design field (such as but not limited to: landscape architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering, biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, or water resources engineering) or a natural sciences field (such as but not limited to geology, geomorphology, environmental science, ecology, or biology). Some knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, or HEC-RES.What will make you stand out? On the job experience with stream restoration, field data collection, water resources engineering Knowledge of stream ecology, biology, and geomorphology Knowledge of watershed hydrology, stream hydraulics, and sediment transport Understanding of the use of regional regressions, regional curves, and reference data in stream restoration design Ability to evaluate design discharge, channel cross-section, profile, and planform using a variety of methods Ability to read and interpret ecological restoration construction plans Ability to interpret results from H&H modelsWho is RES: We are the nations largest and most experienced provider of ecological restoration and water resource solutions.
