Position Summary The Registry of Motor Vehicles administers a variety of licensing, registration and law enforcement-related functions and services. The Director of Medical Affairs Department is a policy making role providing support and direction to the Registrys safety goals and objectives. The Director is responsible for meeting service levels, providing day to day direction, operational management and setting goals of the Medical Affairs Department for the short term and the planning and research necessary to achieve the goals of Medical Affairs and the agency in the long term. Duties and Responsibilities * Creation of policies and procedures for planning, designing, developing, managing, and maintaining programs, functions, and software applications necessary for the users of Medical Affairs and any associated training. * Creation of criteria for licensing persons to drive with medical or physical impairments within the authority of the Registrar through the specific and formal recommendations of the physicians and medical experts who comprise the Commonwealths Medical Advisory Board, including the administration of the handicap plate/placard and tinted glass waiver programs. * Interpretation of Massachusetts General Laws, Rules and Regulations to formulate policies and procedures relating to the Registrars authority for licensing and evaluating persons who have a medical or physical impairment that may affect their ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner. * Research for the establishment of fair and effective policy concerning proactive identification of drivers who may be of risk to themselves and the public at large. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, professional internship, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. II. A Bachelors degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience. IV. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required experience.
