Job Description Job Description: Project Description: Professional Safety/Environmental Work in Support of the MTA Capital Program Description of Work: Performs Project Monitoring on asbestos abatement, lead disturbance, and silica generating projects to ensure that all work is performed in accordance with applicable Federal, State and MTA/Construction & Development regulations/procedures. Oversees lead and asbestos abatement contractors and air monitoring to ensure work is performed properly. May also include oversite of contractors performing operations that may generate airborne silica. Prepares asbestos abatement and lead placard documents and maintain record. The candidate may be directed to perform asbestos surveys. Other Work Requirements 30-Hour OSHA Certification and 8-hour Lead Awareness Course are required prior to work on or near the right of way. The Consultant shall provide safety shoes, at no cost to the MTA, which meets MTA guidelines and specifications when participating in any activities located on the track or wayside. Consultant must also provide protective suits/equipment including respirator and be responsible for yearly fit testing. Must pass a one-day NYCT Track Safety & prior to participating working on any MTA project. Note To protect all employees/consultants and to continue to provide safe and reliable service to our communities, as of November 14, 2021, we are requiring all new MTA (including their vendors) hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their start dates. MTA and their Job Shopper vendors will consider exceptions for religious and medical reasons, where ppropriate. ''Fully vaccinated means you must have both doses of a 2-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the second dose or have received 1 dose of a 1-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the dose. Proof of your vaccination status in the form of a CDC vaccine card must be filed with your employer/vendor prior to your start date. Education Requirement: Education Requirements: Bachelor''s Degree from an accredited college in an engineering, architecture, landscape rchitecture, business administration or public administration AND one year''s experience OR Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent AND five years'' experience OR Four-year high school diploma or its equivalent plus any combination of college education and/or experience to make up the equivalent of FIVE YEARS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE One year of experience will be given for: o 30 semester credits of college education leading to a Bachelor''s o A Master''s degree from one of the disciplines described in 10 o A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Experience Requirements One year experience or commensurate with level of education described above. Required Licensing/Certifications: New York State Dept of Labor (NYSDOL) Asbestos Supervisor Preferred/Optional Licensing/Certifications: NYSDOL Asbestos Project Monitor, NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector, NYSDOL Asbestos Designer SSPC C3/C5 Supervisor/Competent Person for De-leading of Industrial Structures. Special Skills/Training Requirements: Preferred full-time experience in professional safety or environmental work specifically in Asbestos abatement, survey, design, project monitoring, familiar with SSPC C3/C5 guidelines for surface preparation. Knowledge of pertinent Federal and State regulations governing the identification nd removal of Asbestos containing materials and disturbance of lead. Familiarity with airborne silica generating operations. Familiar with OSHA/PESH regulations. Must be able to read drawings. Good Computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Candidate should have extensive knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and capable to address environmental issues Hours Normal Work Week: Days of week vary. Minimum 40 Hours (nights/weekends/holidays based on project need) Duties may require assignment to various shifts and may include weekend, nights, or holiday work. No. of Paid Hours per Week: 40 hours (MTA C&D does not pay for lunch hours.)
