Overview:Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. (SPA) is a well-established and progressive defense contracting company in the DC Metro area. We do state of the art work and have a cadre of outstanding professionals on our team.SPA assists the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in developing leading edge technologies to counter WMD in support of CCMDs and transitioning these technologies to services and SOCOM. SPA provides expertise across the full range of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives (CBRNE) WMD, Counter Improvised Threat and Countering Threat Network technologies to support understanding, detection, identification, characterization, denial, control, disabling, defeating, disposing, safeguarding the force, managing consequences, and test and evaluation in support of military and civilian operations.SPA has a future need for Data Scientists and Data Engineers who will support DTRA''s work.These positions are based out of SPA''s Lorton office (Data Engineer) or in Reston, VA (AI/ML-related). Some remote work may be possible for these positions, depending on project needs. CJ IN123Responsibilities:Responsibilities and day-to-day duties vary by position, but the successful candidate will be performing tasks such as: 1) Conducting critical decision and analytic support to the Joint Science and Technology Office for Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) RD for assessments, 2) Demonstration, analysis, scientific codes, and other decision making in evaluating systems to counter WMD - biological and chemical threats, and counter threat networks, 3) Structuring, developing, conducting and analyzing results from multiple data sources, 4) Tailoring complex modeling, simulation and analysis techniques, mathematics, statistical methods, optimization, and other principles and disciplines to conduct computational analysis and develop quantitatively based insights and findings that will drive operational, logistic, and acquisition decisions, 5) Providing integral support to the methodology determination, conceptualization implementation, and analysis and quality assurance of modeling and simulation-based decision support system application, 6) Developing knowledge regarding a stipulated issue through analysis of complex data sets, identifying actionable trends and problems, 7) Using appropriate methods to creatively explore, mine, analyze and manipulate data sets ranging in size from sparse to petabytes and type (e.g. small number of .pdf text reports, Excel spreadsheets and .csv files to repositories of image or audio data), 8) Interpreting results from multiple sources using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining, analysis and learning techniques, 9) Designing, developing and implementing technical solutions in support of concurrent analysis and software development projects, and 10) Evaluation of new data sources for adherence to the organization''s quality standards and ease of integration.Travel is expected (10% to 25%).Qualifications:Required QualificationsBachelor''s degree in Data Science, Data Engineering, Data Architecture, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Development, Database Administration, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field2 years or more of relevant experienceAbility to work collaboratively or independentlyStrong attention to detail, communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skillsActive DoD Top Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain throughout duration of employment.Preferred QualificationsExperience, Master''s or PhD in Data Science, Data Engineering, Data Architecture, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Development, Database Administration, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related fieldExperience with programming, database development, and database visualizationExperience with DoD acquisition
