MD Anderson Cancer Center has Respiratory Therapist opportunities in our Respiratory Care department! Join our community of exceptional Respiratory Therapist and earn an additional $20,000 incentive within your first year !*The Respiratory Care team provides a full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient health care services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With the help of highly trained equipment techs and internal information system support, our therapists can focus on the essentials of quality patient care. To do so, respiratory therapists are systematically assigned specific areas to promote respiratory excellence. Respiratory Care provides services to a full range of patients from toddler to the elderly with emphasis in acute and critical care.The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is ranked the nation''s top hospital for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report''s '' Best Hospitals .'' Our mission also includes education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.The ideal candidate will be a Registered Respiratory Therapist and licensed with the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care practitioner. **Shift: Nights 6:30pm-7am with rotating weekends and holidays (36 hrs per week)Salary: $53,640 - $67,050 - $80,460 (based on a 36 hour work-week)KEY FUNCTIONSPatient SafetyProvides respiratory care modalities to patients as ordered by physicians or based on approved protocols, including but not limited to the administration of respiratory related medications, oxygen and humidity therapies, airway clearance therapy, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, lung studies etc. in all assigned areas (i.e. ICU and Non-ICU).Develops, implements and revises patient care plans while promoting patient safety, quality of care, and patient experience.Ensures prepackaged medications are labeled with patient information and has the correct drug, dosage and dosage form.Discusses orders for respiratory care with providers, nurses, supervisors and care teams.Verifies and accurately documents pertinent patient care data including assessment and procedures in medical records at the time of providing care.Assembles, prepares, cleans, and operates respiratory care equipment per established clinical and infection control practices. Documents patient safety issues in safety intelligence.Ensures supplies and equipment are used properly to promote stewardship of resources.Removes and returns all stand-by or used respiratory care equipment for processing in the department.Performs arterial draws and analysis.Education and TrainingProvides education to patients before, during, and after patient care on respiratory medications and related pletely documents patient education in patient record.Provides orientation to new staff.Maintains required training and education per regulatory and licensing requirements.Attends all required training, education, and skills validation review on a timely basis.Attends staff meetings and team huddles regularly.Pays close attention to communication through the use of email, intranet, and other methods.Other duties as assignedEDUCATIONRequired: High school diploma or equivalent and an Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an approved and accredited program or university.EXPERIENCEPreferred: Two years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONRequired:Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)Basic Life Support (BLS) by AHAAdvanced Life Support (ACLS) by AHALicensed by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) to practice Respiratory CareIt is the policy of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to provide equal employment opportunity without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, disability, protected veteran status, genetic information, or any other basis protected by institutional policy or by federal, state or local laws unless such distinction is required by law.
