JOB TITLE: Patient Care Technician (PCT)GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES - Aid nurses by tending to participants and taking notes on care and performs specific and assigned duties, which are supportive of the nursing process to the study participants under the supervision of the charge nurse.SUPERVISOR - Charge NurseMANAGER - Unit ManagerDUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:Maintains accurate documentation: vitals, shift report, patient log, etc.;Reviews and reports any missing or inconsistent documentation on charts;Ensures that shift report is received at shift change;Performs and records study participant vital signs;Monitors the Nurse''s Station at Nurse''s request (i.e., answering phones, preparing shift report, etc.);Checks computer/email for visits, updates and inter-office communication;Checks orders for NPO, vitals, etc. to ensure patient compliance;Performs lab tests as needed (i.e., Blood draws, ECG''s)Monitors all participant areas (including, but not limited to: Activity Room, Courtyard, Kitchen, day areas, and Units);Monitors family/friends visitation;Replenishes water/juices/coffee as needed;Assists with study participant admissions and discharges, as well as inventory;Ensures that all patient rooms are cleaned promptly upon discharge for new admissions;Initiates meal preparation and clean-up according to meal schedule(s) and dietary restrictions/requirements;Initiates and supervises study participant outings (i.e., bowling, movies, walks);Initiates planning and execution of patient activities;Provide a safe/comfortable environment for the study participant;Adheres to safety standards for the facility, patient rooms and unit areas;Notifies the RN or LPN promptly of any study participant compliant or change in status;Cross-trained and back up lab technician in the collection and process of UDSOther duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - This position requires the following minimal requirements:Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally;Knowledge of basic computer skills;Skill in maintaining records;Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with study subjects, families, staff and the public;Ability to complete paperwork with precision and attention to detail;Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations;Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures;Ability to work independently as well as functioning as part of a team;Ability to communicate effectively with study participants, co-workers, physician and family members;Ability to present a positive image of the facility;Ability to maintain study participant confidentiality;Skill in organization and record maintenance;Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.EDUCATION - High School/GED required. Medical Assistant or CNA preferredEXPERIENCE - Nurses Aid, Phlebotomist or EKG Technician experience a plus.CERTIFICATE/LICENSE - CPR training providedA successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring Participants, Sponsors and Staff are cared for by following the guidelines provided by Management. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented individual that is adaptable to change and has a strong background in Supervision and Organizational Success. The ideal person is a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment and is willing to adhere to the guiding principles of ACMR.COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended at CenExel Clinical Research and all its research sites. As permitted by applicable law, COVID-19 vaccination may be required for employees that work directly with patients.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS - Standard operating hours are seven days a week, twenty-four hours per day, 365 days a year. Standard shifts are in twelve-hour increments. May be required to complete job-related tasks outside of that time frame, in excess of a standard 40-hour work week. Requires prolonged walking, standing, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires occasional lifting of boxes up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in a medical office environment and includes exposure to blood-born pathogens and bio-hazardous materials. This role requires the ability to work with a broad range of personalities, situations and psychiatric disorders; therefore, candidates must possess the ability to resolve conflicts immediately and diffuse potentially escalating events before they occur.
