Primary function is in processing EMS transport claims. Work requires knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures used in performing medical billing of EMS transports as well as related functions which involves the operation of standard office equipment that is learned on the job and through specialized training. Experience is usually gained through a combination of certifications, training and experience. Contacts require basic courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others, and include contacts to request or provide information, ask questions or obtain clarification. The work is semi-routine where tasks are covered by procedures or precedents, and although patterned, some latitude is permitted to consider and choose the most appropriate technique, method, or procedure to follow. Work is performed in an office environment. The physical demands consist mainly of sitting or standing at a work station for extended periods of time. Operates standard office equipment and a computer using word processing, spreadsheet, email and billing software applications, occasionally lifting and moving light objects is required. The work is performed under general supervision. Examples of WorkInputs, inspects, reviews and/or maintains a complex medical billing system involving varied medical administrative processes such as insurance verification, medical coding, medical billing, cash posting fromExplanation of Benefits/Electronic Remittance Advices (EOB/ERA''s), medical Accounts Receivables follow up, and medical collections while in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.Processes daily EMS transports, reviews medical documentation and assigns ICD-10 codes as required.Calculates and processes payments received from insurance companies and patients. Applies contract requirements as applicable. Appeals claims as needed. Trends insurance issues when identified and reports to management.Operates standard office equipment and a computer using word processing, spreadsheet, email and billing software applications.Recommends, coordinates, and implements Fire and Rescue Department administrative practices and procedures to facilitate work processes and accomplish unit terprets laws, rules, regulations, and policies for the purpose of answering inquiries, resolving complaints, or to resolve work related problems. Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville''s core competencies. Performs related work as required. Requires a thorough knowledge of all components of the medical billing and collection functions associated with EMS transports and adheres to all medical billing collection statutes and federal guidelines. Prepares correspondence relating to Fire and Rescue administrative activities for the purpose of presenting information, or resolving complaints or work related problems. CPC certification may be substituted as two years towards the overall four year education/training/experience requirement. One year of billing experience with an ambulance company or billing company is preferred.LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:Certified Ambulance Coder (CAC) certification must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment and maintained.
