What is the structure and culture of the team like? What is your leadership like?Practice Manager Martha Bellens-Martin is based in Dallas, Texas and has worked in the Software Solutions Industry since 1990. Martha joined VMware in 2015 and now leads a dynamic and diverse team of Technical Account Managers (TAM) within our Professional Services Organization. She has a number of open roles on her team, so why not get to know her before applying?VMware Careers: Martha, can you share how youve arrived at this point in your career?Martha: I started my career at LTV (Ling-Temco-Vought) Aerospace in a traditional Industrial Engineering discipline, my role involved plant layout and process standardization. In 1988, a vendor called Intergraph proposed a software solution that would move us from traditional hand drawn blueprints to CAD (Computer-Aided Design). I was delighted to be chosen for the pilot as I was able to execute my job in a fraction of the time. I loved the solution so much, that I decided to join Intergraph and spent the next several years in pre-sales helping other companies understand how they could take advantage of this automation. It was at Intergraph that I had my first promotion into management and loved the opportunity to coach others in their careers. From Intergraph I moved on to Peregrine Systems continuing to demonstrate and sell software solutions. Peregrine went on to be acquired by Hewlett Packard and I spent the next 17 years continuing as a manager of Pre-Sales Engineers there. In 2015, I was presented with the opportunity to join VMware as a TAM Practice Manager. I was a little hesitant. Why? I had never been on the Professional Services Organization (PSO) side of the equation before and I wondered if it would it be as dynamic as Pre-Sales? Well, it wasnt long before I got my answer, it is absolutely just as dynamic! Running TAM for South Central has been so fulfilling and I get to work with a team that is the customer advocate. Since joining VMware, I have hired 12 TAMs (with the outstanding support of our in-house Talent Acquisition team). Being a part of VMware is very special, we are a company that truly lives by our EPIC2 values (and I am proud to be here and always happy to bring new talent onboard.VMware Careers: How did you get into tech, in particular the TAM Practice Manager function?Martha: While working at LTV after college we were just starting to do plant layouts electronically (as opposed to manual blueprints). I was able to execute my job in a fraction of the time. I loved the solution so much I joined the vendor who had proposed and trialed the solution with us Intergraph. Ever since I have focused on helping customers to understand how software solutions can automate their businesses and drive value to the bottom line. The TAM function is my first time to be part of the Professional Services organization, after selling software solutions for a number of years. I truly believe that it is a fantastic offering for our customers to invest in a TAM to ensure that no software solutions languish as shelfware. Customer adoption is what makes a successful TAM.VMware Careers: Youre hiring into your teams, tell us about the type of people you are looking to recruit?Martha: I look for people who are well-spoken and passionate, who can effectively tell a solution story. Customer facing experience is a must for me for the roles I have on my team. One of my first projects here was to refresh our TAM job description: We want to hire epic people who enhance our diverse culture, people who will push us, amaze us and drive us forward. In return, we offer the freedom to define and lead your future.VMware Careers: If you could offer one piece of career advice what would it be?Martha: Align yourself with people, a job, and a company that brings you joy. 30% of your time each week is work related, therefore it should be a positive portion of your life to ensure mental and physical wellness. Why a TAM?Use your office shelves for awards for being the best in your industry - not for unused Software.Too often we see companies make a significant purchase of a solution yet stumble in the implementation or even the full realization of the power of the whole solution.Specialties: Effective Technical Presentations and Coaching of Technical ResourcesMartha Bellens-Martin has worked in the Software Solutions industry since 1990, primarily focused on demonstrating Software Solutions to help businesses run more efficiently and effectively and to drive value to the bottom line.Where is this role located?Remote: This role is a home-based office position in or near Austin, Dallas or Houston, Texas.
