Summary: Goldbelt Apex, LLC is seeking a qualified Physician Assistant (PA/C) Instructor who provides instruction and accreditation program support services to the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP), including classroom/lab/clinical time, instruction preparation, and office hours for assisting students. They will augment the Government staff for IPAP as directed, in support of U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE) located at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) in Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Essential Job Functions: Perform instructional duties which will include classroom/lab/clinical time, preparation hours, and office hours for assisting students one-on-one, as required. Courses will include the Clinical Competencies for the Physician Assistant Profession as outlined by the National Commission on Certification of the Physician Assistant (NCCPA), the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and the guidelines of the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA). Develop, evaluate, modify, and instruct graduate level classes in fundamentals of clinical medicine and surgery, which includes human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, laboratory testing, diagnostic testing, patient dispositions and patient education and PA professional issues. Assist in conducting practical exercises in clinical practice to include physical examination techniques, special patient model exercises, outpatient medical patient shadowing, and emergency medicine and surgical skills practicums. Utilize data from student critiques and quality improvement peer review, modifies the instructional content and/or presentation method to best serve the graduate students. Leverage emerging technologies and evidence-based medical literature in the presentation of the classes to facilitate student understanding and mastery of the class content. Review class content and teaching aids on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and timeliness of presented material as well as adherence to current practice guidelines and recommendations. Ensure that the appropriate university requirements are met to maintain the contractual agreement with the affiliate university and to meet accreditation standards as established by the ARC-PA. As an authority in physician assistant clinical practice and an expert in administration and the management of an evolving database required for accreditation, ensure that all appropriate university requirements are met IAW policies and guidelines of the affiliating university and that the content meets standards prescribed by the ARC-PA and PAEA. Define potential physician assistant-related research topics and ideas and assesses the feasibility of each project. Supervise the development of protocols, collection of data and evaluation of results for conducting research involving the physician assistant profession and the preparation of articles and/or papers for presentation and/or publication in various professional media. Coordinate with the Phase 2 clinical staff the completion of data collection, analysis of data, and preparation of articles and/or papers. Results of these research studies in the scientific literature are used to update programs of instruction toward a better understanding by students and for the incorporation of this knowledge into better treatment of patients. Keep informed of new procedures, techniques, and information within the PA profession through attending professional meetings, scientific conferences, symposia, congresses, and other professional events Develop test questions for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 examinations in compliance with established guidelines of the Testing Committee Policies. Maintains and updates a test item databank to reflect currency of material. Provide academic counsel and professional career management for graduate students in IPAP. Provide input to faculty deliberations regarding the change of students status (recycle or relief). Provide direct patient health care to ensure currency in the medical standards of care for a minimum of 8 hours per month under the established PA scope of practice as agreed upon by the supervising physician and credentials committee of the MTF. Abide by all credentialing processes required by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and MEDCoE. Comply with MEDCoE and MTF policies regarding personal appearance and conduct. Meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements as directed by MTF. Responsible for following all MEDCoE policies, procedures, and regulations in support of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. Maintain security over all teaching materials, not allowing for them to be improperly reproduced or distributed. Report student discipline problems to the appropriate government representative as soon as possible. Refer all student requests for exceptions or academic considerations to the appropriate government representative. May not at any time approve exceptions to program policies. Duties are subject to change based on the needs of the government customer. Conduct instruction in a variety of environments, to include classroom laboratory, clinical, or field instruction. May be exposed to infections or disease while providing direct patient health care Credentialed providers are required to meet specific immunization requirements, as dictated by the MEDCoE and the MTF During clinical rotations at San Antonio Military Medical Center North (SAMMC), staff may be required to wear specific scrubs or clothing. Works under general supervision of and reports to the Program Manager Local travel may be required infrequently. Other duties as assigned. Necessary Skills and Knowledge: Professional knowledge, skills, and experience to meet all requirements of an academic position at the professor level with the affiliating university Expertise in the administration and management of an evolving database required for accreditation Extensive professional knowledge and skill as a NCCPA certified physician assistant in the delivery of medical and surgical care utilized in the recommendation, administration, and management of medical and surgical patients Extensive professional knowledge and skill working performing minor surgical and resuscitation procedures Extensive expertise in clinical pharmacology and human anatomy and physiology. Extensive professional knowledge and skill in performing and documenting a complete physical examination of patients of all age groups. Extensive professional knowledge and skill in laboratory and radiological diagnostic testing for acute and chronic medical, surgical and emergent conditions. Extensive professional knowledge and skill in using complex simulation technology (Laerdal Corporation''s SimMan patient simulator and arterial/venous access mannequins). Extensive professional knowledge and experience in counseling and managing students in a rigorous graduate level physician assistant program. Extensive professional knowledge and skill conducting graduate level research and applying experimental theories and new developments to patient care problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods. Professional knowledge of educational requirements for graduate level accreditation programs in the field of physician assistant practice. Professional knowledge and skills in adult educational theory and diverse instructional methodologies in support of the various learner styles. Ability to stand for long periods of time while in the field or classroom Be able to read, write, and speak English Fluently Possess excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills Be capable of learning and utilizing current and emerging military and commercial technology Capable of performing a variety of writing tasks ensuring cohesiveness, clarity, flow, and compliance with Army and grammatical writing guidelines Be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and incorporated programs to include Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook, and be able to troubleshoot basic computer hardware and software required for services being provided Minimum Qualification: Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) current certification from NCCPA, in good standing At least ten (10) years'' Physician Assistant clinical practice experience Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MS-PA) or related Masters degree Graduate education degree or three (3) years experience teaching at a graduate-level physician assistant program, a medical school, or an equivalent health education program Ability to obtain and maintain PA professional privileges and credentials at a local military medical treatment facility (MTF), specifically BAMC Ability to pass and maintain a Tier 1 (T1) Investigation (Federal background check).
