Secure our Nation, Ignite your Future We provide Scientific, Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in Arlington, VA. We have an immediate need for a Sr. Scientist / Engineer in support of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency''s (DARPA) Biological Technologies Office (BTO). Candidates will support the development and management of new and existing programs focused on creating systems that incorporate engineered biological components to address material degradation, develop novel materials, and optimize warfighter readiness. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in a field relevant to support programs in biology and systems biology (e.g. biology, immunology, physiology) and several years of postdoctoral experience with a publication record demonstrating rigorous evaluation of testable hypotheses and knowledge of statistical methods required for multivariate data analysis. Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret clearance at minimum, however those holding an active clearance are preferred. Candidates having previous experience providing direct support to a DARPA Program Manager including the development of new start programs, the source selection process, human subjects research and in assessing performer progress towards program goals are preferred.The candidate is requested to provide technical input and reviews of research progress for multidisciplinary technology development efforts in the area of systems biology. Candidates having a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. biology, immunology, physiology) and practical experience with -omics methodology and data analysis, including but not limited to, nucleic acid sequencing, mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics are preferred. Strong interpersonal skills are an advantage, such as being able to work well within a small group of experts with overlapping, but distinct, technical domains. Candidates must have strong technical writing skills, analytical skills and an ability to prepare effective presentations that can communicate complex scientific ideas to broad audiences. The ideal candidate will be very organized, highly self-motivated, detail oriented, and adept at multitasking with a demonstrated ability to respond quickly to often changing priorities in a high-pressure environment. Candidates should be skilled in reaching out and communicating with DARPA, DoD, and other government personnel, digesting basic and applied biotechnology research (and be able to apply this research to DoD capability gaps), and demonstrate a willingness to explore the scientific literature for emerging biotechnology. The candidate must readily handle tasks ranging from briefing support to general administration. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum Secret DoD Security Clearance clearance Ph.D. or equivalent in one of the following or related areas: Microbiology, Bioengineering, Animal/Human Physiology or other relevant field. Excellent organization and communication are required as is the ability to coordinate disparate, parallel tasks related to different programs. Candidates must be willing grow beyond the specialty acquired in their formal education/training via ad hoc learning of new technical domains reflective of program requirements. Candidates should be able to perform rapid review of unfamiliar technical literature to identify the state-of-art technologies, their limitations and promises, and the parties responsible for their development A wide variety of tasks are associated with this position, including briefing support, data analysis, and general administrative duties.
