Job Description Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely. The FAST Labs, Sensor Technologies (ST) Product Line has restructured and made efforts to align with key areas of focus both internally and externally. Our strategic vision is one that highlights collaboration across the enterprise, transition to Business Area partners and a focus on Commercial Research and Development (CRAD) market demands. Our portfolio and areas of potential interest range from next generation lasers, precision beam pointing, advanced seekers & expendables, to quantum apertures and photonics. ST has established itself as a market leader in the development of EO/IR and RF full spectrum component technologies. With this restructuring, a new group was formed, Multimodal Applications and Modeling (MAM). Following the shift in mindset in our customer communities, MAM has been created to fit a growing customer need for the demonstration of leading edge capabilities in relevant modeling environments. MAM''s charter is to demonstrate new capabilities using sensor expertise from ST and in partnership with others across the enterprise to showcase our hardware capabilities and increase Pwin for future efforts. MAM is seeking scientists to assist in the execution of existing CRAD programs as well as the growth and development of future efforts. The MAM group is positioned to capture and execute Operations Analysis and Modeling and Simulation programs in support of product line growth and strategy. As a Principal Scientist in this role, you will be responsible for:* Development of requirements for novel multimodal systems pursued by Fast Labs* Identification of new and emerging growth areas for our partner Tech Groups in relevant modeling environments* Collaborating with internal experts to define specific platform and mission level requirements* Recommending modeling approaches for requirements, operational architecture, functional architecture, and physical architecture* Performing modeling using a variety of common Government and internal tools* Identifying necessary customer inputs and working to acquire relevant platform, sensor, & threat models from the respective customer communities* Leading and interacting with the relevant customer counterparts to ensure modeling accuracy and validity to the identified customer mission and vision* Supporting new business pursuits and initiatives as requestedThis position reports directly to the Multimodal Applications & Modeling Technical Group Lead (MAM-TGL) and can be can be based out of our Merrimack, NH, Columbia, MD, or Austin, TX facility. Each position will require virtual and in-person collaboration with customers and staff across BAE Systems ES Facilities. An ideal candidate would demonstrate:* An ''A Player''s'' attitude. Required Education, Experience, & Skills Required Skills* Ability to attain DoD Top Secret (TS) clearance* Experience working with the DoD research labs, including DARPA, AFRL, and ONR* Experience in leading technical teams to solve complex technical problems - in particular, coordinated analysis, modeling, and simulation to drive full-spectrum system requirements and CONOPS* Demonstrated self-discipline to plan and prioritize workTypical Education and Experience:* Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, Math, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Science, or other relevant paths Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Preferred Skills and Qualifications:* Active DoD Secret clearance and ability to obtain DoD TS/SCI* Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE)* Previous experience in frameworks for Operational Analysis (such as AFSIM and DIADS), sensor modeling (such as MATLAB), and system simulation* Experience with Cost Account Management and prioritization of technical tasks* Experience reviewing and approving Basis of Estimates and proposals including assessment of associated risks and opportunities About BAE Systems Electronic Systems BAE Systems, Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of BAE Systems plc, an international defense, aerospace and security company which delivers a full range of products and services for air, land and naval forces, as well as advanced electronics, security, information technology solutions and customer support services.
