In this role, the successful candidate will design and lead the implementation of an extensible multi-vendor IaaS/PaaS cloud infrastructure to meet the federal agency''s current and future needs. The Cloud Network Architect must have significant experience creating new and moving existing workloads to the cloud. The successful candidate will create, oversee rollout, and serve as the point of escalation for managed network, security, and computational solutions. In this role, the successful candidate will help design and implement an extensible multi-vendor IaaS/PaaS cloud infrastructure to meet the federal agency''s current and future needs. Job Description: The Cloud Network Engineer must have significant experience creating new and moving existing workloads to the cloud. The successful candidate will create, deploy, and serve as the point of escalation for managed network, security, and computational solutions. The position requires on-site presence at the client facilities in Silver Spring, MD. Boulder, CO, may be considered as an alternate location. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Design, implement, and deploy new services for customers, and support the operational Cloud environment * Build scalable network infrastructure integrating offerings from Amazon Web Services, Azure, OpenStack, and/or other cloud solutions * Build and support Azure landing zone(s) to provide security and routing services from hub VNETs with IaaS-based firewalls managing traffic between VNets and ExpressRoutes * Develop, apply, and monitor security and load balancing rules within managed environment * Provide connectivity from customer spoke VNets to a managed Hub VNet * Build, manage, and troubleshoot virtual machines for IaaS * Propose enhancements to existing managed service environment * Participate in change control process with a team of cloud and network engineers * Automate processes and builds where possible to reduce manual effort * Maintain operational environment to meet customer SLAs * Perform other job-related duties as assigned Supervisory/Management Authority: * This position does not require supervisory or management authority Education and/or Experience: * Bachelor''s degree in Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience * Practical experience migrating customer workloads from premises to cloud * Strong understanding of AWS and Azure technologies across compute, storage, network, database * Experience deploying Network Virtual Appliances in Cloud, most preferably from Fortinet (Palo Alto, Cisco, or F5 experience will be considered) * Deep operational experience ensuring efficient troubleshooting and speed to problem resolution Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Demonstrated knowledge of Direct Connect, ExpressRoute and VPN connectivity options to connect AWS/Azure, and premises for hybrid connectivity * Strong working knowledge of networking protocols and technologies including BGP, IPsec, network segmentation, VRFs, Switching, VLANs and load balancers. * Strong understanding of identity management, federated identity systems (Microsoft ADFS), MFA, and Active Directory integration with cloud apps and Azure AD * Current knowledge of DevOps, containerization, security, and observability * Scripting ability to enable automation and deployment of infrastructure as code, interacting with Azure Resource Manager (ARM) with Terraform, Azure PowerShell, and Azure CLI * Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, and ability to communicate complex technical ideas to many audiences * 6+ years of experience in networking and 4+ years in cloud engineering * Ability to successfully pass a drug and background investigation Work Environment: Work will be performed in a climate-controlled Federal office setting.
