Position includes a $2,000 sign on bonus.Performs daily clinical and related activities of the veterinary program within the animal care environments at Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL). Ensures that the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal, and institutional guidelines, and regulations. The following are responsibilities relate to the Veterinary Technician 1: Monitor animal health and welfare while performing at minimum twice daily animal health and clinical observations. Work up animal health concerns per CRADL SOPs and BOPs.Perform regular clinical observations, review, and follow-up with veterinary team on open health cases.Provide timely triage and treatment to emergency cases.Participate in cage-side and weekly rounds to review cases with the veterinary staff.Electronic recordkeeping of clinical observation and treatment with necessary communications with veterinary staff and client researchers.Generate and submit internal and external health trending reports in the required formats and timeframes as assigned.Responsible for tissue sampling, routine animal manipulations (e.g., dosing) and administration of fluids or other treatments as required in the course of veterinary duties.Perform staff technical proficiency or researcher competency assessments as assigned.Job QualificationsThe following are minimum qualifications related to the Veterinary Technician 1 position:Education: Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) in animal or laboratory science, adult education, or related field. Bachelor''s degree (B.A./B.S.) preferredExperience: Minimum one - two (1 - 2) years of veterinary experience. Experience in laboratory animal facility, preferred.Certification/Licensure: Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from AALAS. preferred.An equivalent combination of education, experience, and certifications may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.Other: Knowledge of veterinary SOPs to ensure that they are being properly followed, of hygienic principles and basic animal husbandry and veterinary principles. Knowledge of behavior and appearances of animals sufficient to notice deviations from normal .Self-directed and displays good"¯judgment."¯ Strong organization skills and proven ability to"¯prioritize multiple"¯tasks/projects"¯to meet department objectives and deadlines. Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment.
