Position SummaryWho We Are:The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.Who We Are Searching For:The Manager, Volunteer Community Engagement, providers leadership and guidance to a portfolio of volunteers (event volunteers, self-help group leaders, peer connections volunteers, MS Ambassadors, community partners, etc.) throughout a geographic area. This position leads the local implementation of all community-based programs in a specific geographic area (in-person virtual) in partnership with volunteers. The Manager, Volunteer Community Engagement is also responsible for recruiting, scheduling, training, engaging, recognizing, and tracking volunteers in assigned portfolio. This position identifies, cultivates, engages and pipelines talent to ensure a strong volunteer workforce that builds personal and organizational capacity.The Manager, Volunteer Community Engagement also collaborates cross functionally to ensure well-supported events and programs resulting in a positive experience for donors, participants, and volunteers. This position also serves as a point of entry to the organization and engages volunteers in every facet of our organization.Relationship Management and Community Engagement (40 %)Identify and cultivate volunteer talent, ensuring volunteers have a career path and leadership opportunitiesImplement centrally produced tools and resources to create a consistent volunteer experienceManage a portfolio of relationships with existing community volunteers (peer connections volunteers, MS Ambassadors, event, office and other specialty volunteers, wellness providers, etc.) and track in database and/or CRMIdentify and connect potential new volunteers and constituents, in the local community and in online communities, to Society initiatives and volunteer opportunitiesWork in partnership with all Society self-help group leaders (both in-person and virtual) to create opportunities for leaders to feel connected to each other and to the SocietyExecute volunteer recognition strategy, including working with market leader and other staff to nominate local volunteers for appropriate awardsEvaluate portfolio interaction data to build a strategic outreach plan that maximizes engagement of volunteersRepresent the organization at public speaking engagement, community in-services and training opportunitiesWorks closely with supervisor to communicate interests of the MS community (local and online) with the Volunteer Community Engagement teamProvide ongoing feedback to leadership team regarding community engagement efforts and implementation to ensure continuous improvementDevelop meaningful opportunities for volunteers to be engaged in program delivery (in-person and virtual) that align with the Society''s strategic planEvent volunteer coordination (30%)Lead volunteer assessment meeting to identify and document volunteer needs for events; provide event details, duties, and expectations; ensure volunteers are properly trained and oriented to their roleEnsure day-of volunteer efforts are implemented; if unable to attend an event in portfolio, identify and train staff or volunteers to support day of event volunteer needsEnsure risk management requirements (volunteer waivers, background checks and required training) are met for all event volunteersMaintain regular communication with fundraising and event production staff, sharing progress on filling volunteer positions, developing contingency plans where necessary, and troubleshooting volunteer gapsProgram Delivery (20%)Lead the local implementation (in-person and virtual) and ongoing delivery of key nationwide program initiatives through leveraging volunteers; ensure Society programs are accessible to all people affected by MS, hosting programs in accessible locations and on accessible online platforms, focusing on isolated, underserved and culturally diverse populations across assigned geographic areaIdentify community-based partners for possible program collaboration, strategic partnership development or support; share opportunities with department leadership to develop thoughtful and strategic relationship management planWork collaboratively with Healthcare Access Team to identify and retain skilled professional speakers and provide content training, speaker disclosure etc.Deliver a consistent experience for people affected by MS participating in Society programs Program experience includes communication, branding and messaging, available Society services, connections to the MS Navigator program, etc.Use Society outcome measurement tools to collect feedback and track on program metrics data that will help ensure impact for people affected by MSWork with marketing partners to provide content and ensure local programs are marketed well to constituentsManagement/Administration (10%):Manage an annual program implementation budget and volunteer reimbursement budget in a particular geographic areaActively take part in local market events and activities supporting Society priorities and local staff and volunteersParticipate on work groups and special projects as neededOther duties as assignedQualificationsMinimum Experience:Minimum of four years'' experience in the health or human services field, especially in the following areas: program development or delivery, volunteer development and management, meeting, and event planningExperience with people with disabilities, particularly MS, desirableUnderstanding of diversity, inclusion, generational differences, and overcoming biasesPossess excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with ability to deliver presentations to the public through a variety of channels (virtually and in-person) and engage constituents through online written communication (ex. chat box, blogs, Facebook posts)Demonstrate the ability to work independently, proactively address and work through challenges with professional courage, diplomacy, emotional intelligence and resilienceCreative mindset, willingness to learn and bring innovative and new ideasPositive solution-focused approach, ability to adapt to changing situationsExhibits the ability to develop and manage relationship effectively (internal, external, and digital)Technical/Other:Computer knowledge and experience in MS Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to quickly learn new software is desired. Database experience preferred.Experience with digital meeting platforms, functionality and engagement features is requiredCommitment to the mission, vision, cultural values, and expectations of the National MS SocietyUtilize Society database to track community interactions and program attendance.Must maintain knowledge of MS and resources available to be an effective Society Ambassador in the community.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to mediate, negotiate and resolve conflicts independently, organizational skills and understanding of planning, timelines and working on multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to work with people from a variety of cultures and settings. Uses an independent working style and facilitates regular and productive communication with team members and senior leadership.Ability to work remotely from supervisor and maximize effectiveness.Ability to take direction and ensure successful implementation across a specific geographic area in conjunction with key stakeholders.This position will be required to drive/travel on Society business. Candidate must possess a valid driver''s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation. The Society does run motor vehicle checks for all positions which require driving and the applicant must meet the Society guidelines.Availability to work occasional nights and weekends to support events, committee meetings, pensation:Estimated compensation range for this role is $53,600 - $63,800 annually.
