Per Diem, Various shifts and hours a week. Pay is a flat rate of $20.90/hr. **Range includes per diem differential +$2.50/hr for evening and weekend shifts. POSITION SUMMARY Available to nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program. Performs duties and tasks that assist the caregivers and promote effective departmental functioning. Assists RN and Unit in providing a safe, organized and efficient healthcare environment. Direct patient care functions are under the direction of the RN/LPN. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training High school diploma or equivalent Currently enrolled in accredited nursing program Completed 1st year of a 2-year nursing program, or 3rd year of a 4-year baccalaureate nursing program. Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) Must be able to provide documentation of class courses and competencies completed in 1st year of nursing school for validation. CNA certification or equivalent certification is preferred. Equivalent certifications include: EMT, MA, Military Medic or completion of 1st year of nursing core classes (not prerequisites for nursing school). BLS certification required by the end of conditional period. Knowledge, Skill and Ability Basic knowledge of Infection prevention and universal precautions Basic knowledge of frequently used medical terminologies Basic Computer and technical equipment knowledge desirable. Able to take directions from multiple staff and demonstrate the ability to set priorities. Basic knowledge and competencies in the care of peripheral IVs, Foley Catheters, Lab draws, and wound care. Experience Hospital or other health care experience preferred. Completed Nursing Fundamentals and Adult Medical/Surgical Clinical Skills/Abilities WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards: chemical, electrical, mechanical, biowaste, explosive, radiation, etc. Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit. The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed). Functional physical demands include; manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Promotes a patient safety culture and participates with other departments in achieving core measures, evidence and best practice initiatives. Identifies own learning needs and expands knowledge base through clinical practice and self-directed learning. Promotes Service Excellence. Supports and ensures compliance with hospital, division, and departmental policies. Familiar with organization, department and job specific environment of care policies, including life safety, utilities management, hazardous material communication, emergency preparedness Infection Prevention and medical equipment failure. Implements interventions based on the Plan of Care, priority of patients needs and desired outcome, guidelines/standards of care, and agency policy and procedures. Increased complexity of assignments are assigned based on demonstrated competencies. Can perform selected procedures under the direction and supervision of a RN/LPN.
