As our Lead Scientist focusing on Computational Finance (CompFi) , you might be wondering what makes MITRE different than other government contractors and consulting firms. The Model-Based Analytics Department is seeking a motivated scientist to apply cutting edge tools and techniques to challenging CompFi related Web3 problems facing the US government. This position offers the opportunity to interact directly with government leaders in a fast-paced and dynamic atmosphere with the ability to make a difference and impact outcomes with solid analysis. To be successful you will: * Be passionate about applying data analytics to real world Web3 and CompFi problems, such as:* Understanding and characterizing the risk associated with a particular token or coin design* Understanding the dynamics associated with a specific DAO specification* Analyzing blockchains for anomalous behaviors or vulnerabilities* Designing and building agent-based simulations of Web3 applications* Developing novel empirical measures of the complex dynamics which emerge from today''s financial system* Leveraging these novel measures in the design, development, and deployment of the next generation of computational models of the financial system* Applying these models, analytics, and insights to inform solutions to prevailing problems facing MITRE Sponsors* Have an innate curiosity and interest in developing research questions and testing hypotheses with open ended tasking.* Work with a spectrum of government sponsors to gain understanding of their challenges, evaluate possible solutions and conduct insightful, actionable analyses.* Support the development and application of a variety of analytical models to sponsor challenges, with a willingness to adapt and learn.* Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner that can be understood by all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise, including the pursuit of technical publication in leading scientific, Web3, and CompFi journals.* Work on or lead projects throughout their life cycle, including conceptualization, requirements definition, data procurement, development, integration, and socialization. Job Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to identify and simulate sources of sociotechnical risk in Web3 protocols (centralization risks) and applications (smart-contract stacking risks) including: L1s, L2s, DeFi, DAOs, and NFTs (including location(s) of actual data referenced). This requires the ability to: * Develop a framework for determination of public blockchain and DAO-related risks as a means of consumer protection* Produce evidence to inform real-time risk monitoring instrumentation strategies* Participate in the construction and testing of digital asset design standards* Formulate agent-based models / micro-simulation approaches to exploring the economic outcome space that emerges from individual actor behaviors* Abstract policy/regulatory directives into computational rules* Model and/or simulate financial contagion, specifically with respect to digital coin/stable coin dynamics, as well as sociotechnical triggers to such contagion, including irrational/stochastic agent behavior and decentralized liquidity pool manipulation* Validate model results using a variety of techniques Required Qualifications:Candidates will be required to have: * 8 + years of related experience with a STEM related Bachelor''s degree; or 4 years and a Master''s degree; or a PhD with 1 years'' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience in relevant domain (generally speaking: complex systems or computational social science; or more specifically: game theory, experimental economics, behavioral economics, micro/macroeconomics, finance, statistics, financial engineering, or operations research).* Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a clearance.* Knowledge of blockchain technology stack and analyses of it, coin design, DAO design, trading, financing, pricing of digital financial assets.* Familiarity with risk analytics* Skilled programmer in Python and/or Java.* Expertise in developing and/or using modeling and simulation tools.* Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills and experience communicating results to both technical and non-technical audiences.* Demonstrated experience working on or leading customer facing engagements* Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearancesPreferredQualifications: Preference will be given to candidate with desired experience including: * Advanced degree (PhD) in Computational Finance, or Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related technical field of study with significant experience in or specialization in Web3 and Computational Finance.* Detailed knowledge of Cryptocurrency exchange trading and operations* Detailed understanding of digital asset smart contract design* Ability to build finance-focused models and simulations, especially agent-based models using a modern framework such as MASON, Repast, Mesa, or NetLogo* Familiarity with working in cloud-based environments like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.* Experience leading or conducting research, including publishing on the topic of Computational Finance or Web3 in peer-reviewed journals.* Experience designing data science or Computational Finance tasking and/or leading a team of data scientists.* Experience applying various machine learning approaches (e.g., random forest, neural networks, support vector machines).* Prior experience working with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, Neo4j).* Experience using version control (e.g., Git, Mercurial, SVN) to support collaborative development.* Experience utilizing notebooks (e.g., Jupyter, R Markdown, Zeppelin),* Prior experience developing interactive data visualizations using open-source technologies (e.g., Angular, Vue, React, D3.js) or other frameworks (e.g., Shiny, Plotly).* Experience working with big data analytic environments including Apache Spark, Presto, Impala, or other distributed SQL engines.* Preferred candidates will have, or be willing to pursue, a DOD Top Secret Clearance and ultimately a TS/SCI clearance with some form of polygraph.
