Job Description SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES: Ultrasound Cardio Technologist are responsible for preparing patients and diagnostic equipment for ultrasound imaging procedures. They explain procedures to patients. After patient positioning, an application of gel is utilized that aids in sound transmission to the patient''s skin before using ultrasound equipment to create images of the patient''s heart. After the exam, the echo technologist helps clinicians interpret the data from the images and determines the images that should be saved, and which should be discarded. Echo technologists may also be responsible for ensuring that records are kept properly.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Prepares for examinations by checking equipment, taking inventory of supplies, replenishing stock as needed, reviewing physician orders and patient schedules, readying recording equipment and inputting patient information.Prepare examination rooms for proceduresManages patient stress by patiently explaining exam procedures, answering questions and providing ambulatory assistance.Positions patients, applies medical gels and electrodes, connects and adjusts equipment and verifies wave signals. Observes patient and equipment during procedure, reports unusual occurrences and records patient''s condition.Observes all safety policies and protocols for patient protection as outlined by the facility.Follows proper procedure for clerical and administrative tasks as related to job.Demonstrates a working knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and condition of the patient served.Demonstrates knowledge of quality assurance and performs the quality control and certification functions related to ultrasonography.Reviews each exam for technical accuracy on all images.RequirementsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTSGraduate of an approved program of echocardiography.Registry in echocardiography by either the American registry of Diagnostic Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International.At least 1 year of previous Echo related experience required.Experience in placing intravenous lines and administration of IV medications is desirable.Experience in EKG interpretation and cardiac testing is preferred
