Graham in southeast Arizona, with offices located on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson.The observatory has a mission of carrying out forefront astronomical research, and development of innovative technology for that purpose. The LBTO operates as a unit within the College of Science at the University of Arizona. For more information about working at the University of Arizona and relocations services, please click here.Duties & Responsibilities The Business Affairs Manager is responsible for managing budget, financial transactions, accounting, reporting, human resources tasks, and supervision of personnel in carrying out the overall business operations of the Large Binocular Telescope Observatory (LBTO) and the Large Binocular Telescope Corporation (LBTC). This individual is responsible for ensuring the LBTO''s compliance with University of Arizona policies and procedures while remaining responsive to expectations of the international collaboration comprising the LBTC. The Business Affairs Manager supports the LBTO Director in strategic and operational aspects of the observatory''s functions, with personnel and infrastructure located in Tucson and on Mt. Graham.Duties:Monitor expenditures, and maintain financial projections to enable short and long-term planning. Develop, maintain, and present reports on financial status and projections to assist the Director and LBTC Board.Maintain and monitor the procurement and payroll systems for LBTO transactions compliant with University of Arizona standards. Coordinate and participate in internal and external audits.Review and monitor contracts and maintain documentation pertaining to LBTC administration. Manage the financial and legal affairs of LBTC including its financial accounting system, annual audit, and tax matters.Oversee HR functions for the observatory in coordination with UA Human Resources and LBTO management; supervise personnel supporting searches and hiring, annual reviews, and other performance matters.Supervise personnel performing business functions in the unit, including office operations, purchasing, and vehicle use.Maintain records according to prescribed schedules, and inventory allowing tracking of LBTO equipment and equipment provided by LBTC members.Participate in meetings of the LBTC Finance Committee and the LBT Board, which may require international travel.The successful applicant will have a record of accomplishment in management of business affairs and accounting, with experience in successful supervision of personnel and familiarity with GAAP standards. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of 7 years of related work experience, including 3 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.Bachelor''s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
