The Engineering Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of work in the repair and maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and equipment throughout the facility. Assignments involve numerous trades and skills including but not limited to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, mechanical repairs, etc. Assignments are varied and are received in verbal, written and electronically through the Orchard Hospital help desk. Sketches, penciled layouts or blue prints, may accompany assignments. Work is performed independently or in teams. Incumbent is responsible for determining the appropriate work methods, tools and materials for most assignments. The Engineering Maintenance Technician is responsible for identifying projects or repairs/maintenance requiring the skills and services of specific higher skilled crafts person. Incumbent is required to participate in rotational on-call shifts with other co-workers. The incumbent will respond and take appropriate action to issues requiring attention after regular scheduled hours and in a timely manner. Attendance of meetings and participation in hospital programs as required. All work is performed within hospital safety policies, and state and federal regulations. Salary Range: $17.60 - $21.12 DOE Required education and experience High school graduate or GED equivalent. Valid CA Driver License. Clean DMV report. Valid car insurance. Preferred education and experience Knowledge of methods and common practices used in building maintenance including basic knowledge of the following trades: 3 years of building maintenance experience in a Hospital setting. Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Painting, HVAC, Mechanical Repairs, and Grounds. Correct use of hand and power tools. Ability to read standard blueprints. General knowledge of the NFPA 101 regarding Fire/Life Safety. Travel required Frequently, the Engineering Maintenance Technician will be directed to use the hospital truck or van to pick up materials and/or transport lab specimens/patient records to other medical facilities. Essential functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Perform daily inspections of all equipment rooms, HVAC systems, and mechanical systems. Perform monthly, semi-annual, and annual preventive maintenance on all essential equipment. Complete daily work orders received from the hospital Help Desk. Maintain comprehensive records of all preventive maintenance, life safety equipment, and all required inspections. Pick up necessary materials for job completion from local lumber or hardware stores. Must be available to be on-call after normal work hours on a weekly rotation basis. Competencies Ability to speak, read, and write English and follow written and oral instructions. Possess the basic skills required to maintain the hospital in sound working order. Have the ability to perform tasks in a safe and timely manner when working independently or with co-workers. Demonstrate sound judgement in the decision-making process. Ability to recognize, prioritize, and take the appropriate action to resolve the issue or problem. Orchard Hospital complies with the California State mandate which requires all healthcare workers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with a booster shot.
