Job DescriptionSUMMARYThe Pediatric Emergency Medicine Psychiatrist is responsible for the provision of compassionate and evidenced-based direct care to patients (Child and Adolescent) and their families in a fast paced environment. The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Psychiatrist will work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide the high quality care to include providing evaluation and treatment for children and adolescents who are suffering from an acute mental health crisis, completing an assessment and creating a treatment/disposition plan specific to the needs of each patient.ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES* Provide treatment services in any capacity including, but not limited to, assessment, medication management and disposition of psychiatric patients including making arrangements for hospitalization if needed.* Provide routine, intensive, complex and emergency intakes and extended evaluations for a variety of emotional, psychological, and behavioral disorders.* Ability to provide oversight and collaboration to advanced psychiatric nurse practitioners.* Follows and ensures agency policy/procedures, including all emergency procedures are adhered to.* Ensures patients are referred to appropriate programs and services as clinically appropriate and communicates need to nursing staff to ensure referrals are completed.* Participates in and meets all ethical and agency standards regarding treatment and documentation practices, QA/QI procedures, utilization management, emergency procedures, and program and patient outcomes.* Engages the patient and family to develop treatment plans that address identified goals.* Documenting assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record.* Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, other agency providers, clinical support staff, administrative staff and community resources in meeting patient and family needs.* Provide health promotion, education and counseling for patient/families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues and coping strategies.* Provide supervision of resident and student cases with feedback given on interview techniques, assessments, treatment plan and documentation.* Management of inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients.* Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.* Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.* Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.* May participate in peer review and quality assurance.* Perform other duties as assigned.* Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.Education and ExperienceEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREDGraduate from accredited school of medicine requiredSuccessful completion of a Psychiatry residency requiredFellowship trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry requiredExperience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry preferredCPI trained preferredLicenses and CertificationsLICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIREDMust possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT and must be maintained thereafterDEA with Controlled Substance required and must be maintained thereafterBoard certification / Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry requiredBLS
