SUMMARY The Jr. Construction Engineer in the Diplomatic Security (OS) DS/PSD/RD section, will perform research and development and construction management in the areas of physical protection against attacks on facilities overseas. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties include but are not limited to: * Perform research, development, test and evaluation on forced entry, ballistic, vehicle anti-ram and blast resistant technologies, materials and designs and construction systems * Review and make recommendations on protective design standards and protective materials, and construction methods for existing structures, buildings under construction, and new building designs * Perform research and development and construction management in the areas of physical protection against attacks on Department facilities overseas * Provide guidance with regard to blast effects vulnerabilities and protective designs on existing structures and facilities under design and construction * Provide guidance with regard to Forced Entry and Ballistic Resistance (FE/BR) vulnerabilities and protective design on existing structures and facilities under design and construction. * Provide technical support at blast mitigation, forced-entry and ballistic testing * Provide expertise in the field of structural engineering research involving design and construction of structures in the area of blast mitigation; computer modeling of structures and the effects of structures due to dynamic loading MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY No management or supervisory authority EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * A Bachelor of Science, Engineering Technology/Construction Management from an accredited university is required * Specific experience in and related to the design, fabrication, and construction of FE/BR and blast mitigation systems * Must have a Top Secret Clearance * Experience in the improvement of anti-ram vehicle barriers to provide setback from vehicle bombs * Experience and user-level ability and skills in CAD, USAGE Blast modeling software (BlastX), Graphing/plotting, and office productivity software * Experience with the development of new designs of improved building elements for forced entry and ballistic resistance protection * Expertise in designing blast resistant buildings; new construction projects; experience de-signing and implementing blast mitigation measures for existing facilities KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Ability to pass a background investigation & drug screening WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is primarily performed in a climate controlled office environment.
