Position Function: The Pharmacist is responsible for maintaining the drug-delivery system within the Health Center,i.e., providing the right drug to the right patient at the same time.II. Job Relationships: The Pharmacist (at BMHC) reports directly to the Chief Pharmacist. He/She is empowered to utilize any support staff within the department.III. Authority: Has the authority to prepare and dispense prescription medicine in accordance with the Health Center policies and all State/Federal regulations.Has authority to act as a source of Drago information for the clinicians associated with SEMC.Has authority to evaluate a patient''s medical profile for possible drug interactions, drug-disease interactions, duplicate therapies, and to notify the clinician where appropriate.Has authority to supervise the activities of the Pharmacy Technicians and/or Pharmacy Interns.Has authority to receive prescriptions from patients and obtain any needed information.Has authority to handle minor problems that occur, and to refer major problems or complaints to the Chief PharmacistsHas the requisite authority required to accomplish the objectives set forth in the department''s Provision of Services Plan and to accomplish the following specific responsibilities.IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 1.) ''Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards.'' Insure that the work areas and countertops are kept clean, and to notify ABAHG for special cleaning problems.Promptly answering the telephone and identifying the person taking the call.Learning of the computer system that aids in the preparation of prescriptions. This learning shall include label generation, editing of prescriptions, preparing various cost-analysis reports adding of drugs to the data base, and other functions as deemed appropriate to the Chief Pharmacist.Keeping the Pharmacy open upon the request of a clinician to service late arriving suring that the pharmacy stock areas do not contain any expired medicines. Placing of expired medicines in the area designated for such items. Contacting appropriate vendors for returning expired medicines for credit or sure that drug products are kept under lock and key in the various clinical areas throughout the Health sure that the sample cabinet does not contain expired medicines.Promptly handle requests from the clinical areas for floor stock medicines.Prepare any intravenous or intra-muscular injections as requested by a clinician.Whenever possible, part-time help should be agreeable to work additional hours to aid in the coverage of the department during times of vacations or sickness.Accurately measuring/calculating pulmonary parameters.Knowledge of all facets of critical care respiratory therapy and American Association for Respiratory Therapy Clinical Practice Guidelines. B. Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions: V. Reporting Requirements: Prepares a print-out of a prescription history for any patient that makes such a request.Notifies the Chief Pharmacist immediately of any incidents representing potential or actual liability. VI. Accountability: Shall be accountable for obtaining medicine in the most cost effective manner.Shall be responsible for the appropriateness and accuracy of the medicine dispensed.Shall be accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all hospital-related, medical staff-related and patient-related data and information.Shall be accountable for abiding by all relevant health center policies and procedures.VII. Qualifications: Minimum Education: BS. in Pharmacy Minimum Experience: Must have experience working in a retail or managed care pharmacy. Minimum skills/abilities: Strong orientation to patient care in accordance with the Medical Center''s values. Certification/Licensure: Registration as a Pharmacist in the State of Massachusetts.
