Posting Details (Default Section) Posting Number: 20222940S Position Title: Assistant Director, Business Intelligence & Analytics Position Type: Staff Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Avg Hours WeekDepartment: 713-UNIT-UIS - Data Base Administration Position Summary: The Assistant Director, Business Intelligence & Analytics is responsible for leading the University-wide effort to create a sustainable business intelligence (BI) and analytics service offering to meet current and emerging institutional needs. Responsibilities include modernizing Villanova''s central data warehouses while also provisioning for the inclusion of external data sources as well as unstructured data; evaluating, selecting, and supporting reporting and analytics toolsets; and developing sustainable, self-service analytics and reporting capabilities to best meet the needs of stakeholders. The Assistant Director must support the continued creation of existing reports and analytics products, while continually seeking ways to gain greater and more timely insights from the data through improvements to the data structure, toolsets, training, etc. The individual in this position will partner with community members to enable the development of both strategic and operational analytics, dashboards, and reports for areas including finance, human resources, student-related offices, institutional reporting, and advancement. Translate business requirements into clearly defined technical objectives and specifications to support overall project objectives. Solicit feedback on work products and through participation in existing data governance committees. Provide guidance and leadership over the analytics team throughout execution. Develop business case justifications and frame solution options in the context of cost, schedule, and requirements trade-offs. Manage schedule and financial performance of projects. Manage a team of business intelligence and analytics specialists, maintaining a team of technical experts in the development, maintenance, and/or support required to keep the central data repositories, toolsets, and associated work products operational for University business. Lead the team in establishing guidelines for data management, managing quality control processes, providing oversight to the quality of test scripts and testing processes, as well as leading user acceptance testing. Author performance appraisals, coach performance, help grow team members'' capabilities, and improve the overall quality of deliverables produced. Oversee warehouse design, ensuring it is scalable for data and user growth and that the technologies selected for platforms are also capable of scaling to meet future needs. Maintain responsibility for securing the data appropriately and for collaborating with leaders on campus to develop and/or enhance data access policies to maximize data security, accuracy, and integrity. Actively pursue information on state-of-the-art practices in business intelligence and data analytics, through publications/presentations, membership in professional organizations, and contact with technology leaders at other institutions; understand and apply this knowledge, professional theories, and concepts to grow analytics capabilities and improve team and project performance. Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Formal Education Bachelor''s degree required Work Experience10 years of progressively responsible experience in reporting, data warehouse management, business intelligence and analytics. Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills) Must maintain a client-first attitude and approach. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and respond in real time to questions, comments, and feedback from customers. The ability to collaborate, communicate, and build consensus with multiple constituents on campus to include senior management, faculty, staff and IT professionals. Ability to serve as the primary point of contact for technology, lead and facilitate discussions, and capture and validate business requirements with customers and key stakeholders at all levels within the University. Display initiative, innovation, and creativity in producing results. Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of higher education/university business terminology, principles, roles/responsibilities, and practices. Ability to manage data from multiple sources and integrate that data into the current environment. Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area) Expertise in data analysis and business intelligence. Competency with the Cognos BI suite, both for administration and reporting purposes. Understanding of Oracle data modeling and permissions. Experience with latest data warehousing trends and with designing central data structures to limit access to data. Experience using market leading analytics tools including Tableau, Argos, and Microsoft Power BI. Knowledge of Oracle Data Base Warehouse table creation, maintenance, backup and recovery. Knowledge of industry vendors and offerings and experience negotiating vendor agreements/contracts. Preferred Qualifications: Formal Education Advanced degree strongly preferred. Project Management Institute ( PMI ) Project Management Professional ( PMP ) certification a plus. Work ExperienceHigher education experience a plus.Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)Proven ability to negotiate and influence others, including vendors, customers at all levels, etc.Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area) Knowledge of the Ellucian Operational Data Store ( ODS ) and Enterprise Data Warehouse ( EDW ) a plus. Knowledge of higher education environment a plus.
