Job Summary The Lead Data/BI Architect reports directly to the the Associate Dean for Financial Affairs and serves as the senior strategic and operational officer for all of UCSF School of Medicine (SOM) business and financial data warehousing activity and SOM''s budgetary and financial transactional systems. This role is considered one of the key leaders on the UCSF campus in enterprise-wide data and business intelligence strategy, systems, and tools as it pertains to business and financial administration. As a key SOM and campus leader, this position establishes SOM-wide data management and business intelligence strategies, policies, and processes and tools, being mindful that those should have the potential to benefit the entire UCSF organization and could be expanded to advance the infrastructure of other schools, campus units, UCSF Health, and, potentially, other campuses.This position works on complex issues, many with little or no precedent and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining SOM-wide administrative IT infrastructure-highly complex forecasting, budgeting, financial tracking, and reporting systems, databases, and data warehouse cubes-to facilitate effective and efficient business and financial operations, reporting, analysis, and decision support. This job requires strategic planning, creative problem solving, and strong ability to blend a thorough understanding of business/financial knowledge with technology to create solutions that custom-fit business requirements. This position is expected to be an expert at working in a SQL Server environment (from database design to TSQL coding), building web-based applications, systems integration, and data warehouses, and synthesizing multiple inputs and stakeholder needs into elegant solutions. This position will be consulted by SOM and campus staff, departments, and leadership for special projects and data needs.This role supervises an IT Architect 4 and Applications Programmer 4, directs and reviews their works, conducts annual performance evaluation, supports professional development, and makes recruitment decision when necessary, Department Description Consistently ranked among the nation''s top medical schools, the UCSF School of Medicine (SOM) is known for its influential basic science and clinical research and for excellence and innovation in patient care and teaching. It is comprised of 28 academic departments, eight organized research units, and six interdisciplinary research centers at seven major sites throughout San Francisco and in Fresno. Its primary clinical training sites are located at UCSF Health, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and UCSF Fresno. The School has an operating budget of $3 billion. The SOM Dean''s Office provides leadership to the School and serves as a central resource for the many diverse components. The Financial Affairs Unit (FAU) is the chief administration unit in the Dean''s Office and oversees, directs, coordinates, and manages all SOM funds, and all clinical enterprise-related funds flow and transactions. FAU serves as the School''s control point for resource planning, finance, accounting and compliance, reporting, and decision support. It also establishes SOM-wide fiscal policies, processes, and financial reporting, and manages the Dean''s Office budget, reporting, and accounting functions. FAU is responsible for the fiscal oversight of the School, and the management of School-wide financial planning, analysis, and reporting process. FAU''s mission is to promote and provide financial expertise, efficient tools and services, responsible fiscal stewardship, and meaningful reporting and analytics, and to be a strategic partner to the leadership of UCSF''s four missions: education, healthcare, research, and public service. Required Qualifications Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related area or equivalent experience/training.Minimum of 10 years of experience in heterogeneous and complex IT environments.Expert level knowledge of business intelligence and data-warehousing strategies and market standards.An advanced knowledge of and extensive hands-on skill with information and system design in a distributed computing environment, as well as pragmatic operational responsibility for technical administration.Demonstrated leadership skills, including strong communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to influence in a matrixed organization.Deep knowledge of the financial planning/analysis and decision support domainExcellent ability to build rapport with stakeholders at all levels across the enterprise Preferred Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in research-intensive educational institution5 years of experience in a health-care related industry About UCSF The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
