Major Responsibilities: Clinical Competency 1)Determination of appropriate radiologic technique based on anatomy, patient''s size and patient''s condition to obtain quality images for the radiologist''s interpretation. 2)Explains procedure to patient or patient''s family, assists patient with transfers as necessary, accurately positions patient using immobilization and support devices to ensure patient comfort and safety. 3)Identify patient utilizing 2 forms of identification, obtain patient''s history before performance of exam, check patient''s orders for corrective order, evaluate patient''s condition, determine pregnancy status, complete proper documentation pertinent to procedure being performed i.e. consents, contrast history, patient assessment forms, and accurately record information on appropriate document for radiologist''s review. 4)Evaluates radiographic images for accuracy of positioning ,radiographic technique, structures of interest and applies corrective action as necessary for: condition of patient, trauma,age, pathology, equipment factors. Factors include:Motion-Sharpness/Definition, Contrast-Density 5)Accurate identification of images including: patient information, radiographic makers: i.e. upright/supine, ap/pa and time if needed. 6)Uses problem solving strategies for efficiency of time, accuracy of positioning with consideration to the patient''s comfort and safety. 7)Participate in team efforts to reduce wait times and report turn around times 8)Prepares contrast media or barium as needed. Equipment Operations 1)Operates/positions general radiographic, fluoroscopic and C-arm equipment. Utilizes PACS 2)Recognizes equipment malfunctions to ensure safety to self and others. 3)Assists radiologists with fluoroscopic procedures including: GI studies, arthrography, myelography and spinal punctures. 4)Operates portable radiographic equipment and C-arms effectively in patient rooms, intensive care, cardiology and surgery. 5)Cleans/disinfects rooms and equipment between patients. Adherence and application to all Radiation Safety Standards and Patient Care Standards and Protocols. 1)Applies established radiation safety standards (protocols and practices) to protect patients, self and others at all times, i.e. screens for pregnancy and uses optimum collimation and protective apparel. Practice ALARA principles(As LowAS Reasonably Achieveable). 2)Adheres to Age Specific Standards. Demonstrates the appropriate knowledge and skills to address the unique needs of guest''s ages. 3)Maintains patient confidentially according to HIPPA Regulations. 4)Obtain appropriate continuing education to maintain IEMA Accreditation. 5)Monitor patient''s condition before, during and after their procedure for safety and well being. 6)Maintains supplies and cleanliness for assigned room on an ongoing basis for organization and efficiency in the performance of an examination. 7)As delegated, performs clerical duties, answers phones and gives instructions to patients in preparation for exams to provide smooth and continous departmental services. 8)Assures accuracy of exam performed and requisition. Quality Control 1)Selects correct patient and procedure to be performed in the RIS system. 2)Select correct patient and procedure in HIS system 3)Changes/checks status of procedure before completing review process in HIS system. Assign procedures to radiologist as necessary 4)Uses approved tools: markers and annotations to correctly identify images. 5)Checks images to assure optimal quality is attained before submitting the images for interpretation. 6)Maintain repeat rate within acceptable guidelines 7)Reports deficient inventory of supplies and linens to the charge technologist. Partnership/Health Care Team Responsibilities 1)Assist fellow technologists as needed to ensure timeliness of exams and the care, comfort and safety of patients. 2)Participation in problem solving issues addressing patients, department operations, quality assurance procedures, interdepartmental relations and associate morale. 3)Maintain positive ''guest relations'' and telephone etiquette following prescribed departmental policies and procedures. Actively promote a positive and professional team effort to increase customer satisfaction. 4)Performs and interacts with others as a team player. 5)Fosters good will and a positive attitude. 6)As delegated, monitor the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordaqnce with departmental procedures. 7)Respond to inquiries and communications with staff and physicians. 8)Transports patients as necessary. 9)Aids in furthering the education of students. Education/Experience Required: Must be a graduate from an accredited AMA school of Radiology Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Knowledge of HIS system Basic knowledge of RIS system Effective interpersonal skills IEMA accreditation in medical radiation technology. If registry eligible must pass ARRT within 1 year of new employment. If currently employed by Advocate, must pass ARRT within 6 months of eligibility. CPR certified Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions: Must be able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high quality patient care High degree of technical skills Must be able to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities Must be conscientious in practicing high quality patient care Ability to work rotating shifts any day of the week Radiation exposure Must be able to work with extremely ill patients Ability to lift and/or move patients: Heavy lifting: lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints May be exposed to hazardous materials and life threatening diseases. This position can recognize needs and behaviors of the following age groups: pediatric(newborn, toddler, school age), adolescent, adult, older adult. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communications skills necessary to interpret age specific responses. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
