The Boeing Space & Launch Division''s Protected Tactical Enterprise Service (PTES) program is looking for a Platform Software Engineer in Colorado Springs, CO. Are you passionate about cloud computing, distributed systems, on-premise cloud native, and working with open-source technology for edge computing? The PTES program is seeking a Kubernetes Software Engineer to design, build, deploy and maintain the management, control, and data plane components of a high-performance Kubernetes-based edge system. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, drive technical design reviews, provide feedback and code-reviews. They will also help mentor and grow the team. The PTES program is developing a new Global Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) Ground System that will manage transmission of protected tactical waveform - a type of secure, anti-jam communication - over Boeing-built Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellites and terminals. As a member of the PTES team, you will be involved in the entire software development life cycle, from idea creation and development, all the way through to maintenance and support of the customer''s delivered system. These positions will place you in roles where you have the opportunity to make an impact on the results of our project. Position Responsibilities: * Utilize Kubernetes and supporting tools such as Helm to design, build, deploy and maintain the management, control, and data plane components of a high-performance edge system. * Automate system builds and configuration using Ansible, Bash and similar technologies. * Thrive while solving challenges related to availability, flexibility and ease of use. * Demonstrate ability to navigate through ambiguous and challenging technical problems. * Be willing to take on challenging design, development work and technically lead. * Have excellent collaboration, communication and coordination skills. * Have a positive and growth mindset, which embraces collaboration, challenges and ambiguity in a complex technical environment. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): * Bachelor, Master or Doctorate degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree. * 7 or more years of professional software development and broad engineering experience. * 5 or more years of software development experience with a backend programming language such as C++, Rust, Go, Java or C * 3 or more years of experience with microservice architectures utilizing Kubernetes for container orchestration. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): * Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance. * Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant industry experience. * A passion for distributed systems and microservice architectures. * Experience with complex systems containing many integrated components. * Experience with multi-threaded/parallel programming. * Experience with lock-free algorithms and data structures. * Experience with open-source software development experience. * Experience with fine tuning Kubernetes and the underlying host OS for optimal performance in a low-latency environment. * Proven ability to plan, schedule, and deliver quality software. * Experience with Continuous Delivery/Deployment pipelines and concepts. * Experience working in an Agile or Kanban software development environment. * Experience utilizing the Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.) or similar tools. Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years'' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years'' related work experience, Master+7 years'' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Relocation: Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position.
