In this job, you''ll be part of the Project Engineering group within the Major Projects Organization in Transmission and Distribution (T&D). This position will coordinate all technical aspects of a project and make decisions in the role of chief technical advisor to the Project Manager (PM) on a project and will ensure that all technical project scope elements are consistent with the project objectives for major bulk power transmission/substation projects. This person will also review and advise on contract deliverables, resolve emerging technical issues, provide risk informed oversight into the technical aspects of projects. Technical leadership is a key operative for this position. As a Project Engineer, your work will help power our planet, reduce carbon emissions and create cleaner air for everyone. Develop and/or coordinate development of bid documentation and project specifications using project execution models for major projects. Lead the review of technical bid evaluation for different project execution models and assist the PM in the development of contracts. Advise the PM on disposition of contractor change orders and claims from a technical perspective. Manage the progress of engineering commitments to ensure successful project completion for all phases of a project. Develop scope, schedule and budget for work packages as assigned and directed by the Project Managers. Coordinate with Project Managers, Procurement and Construction groups and/or contractors for successful completion of the projects. Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control on assigned projects. Support value engineering efforts to improve cost efficiency of major projects. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. QualificationsThe Essentials. Seven or more years of combined experience in managing the engineering and design of major Electric Utility Transmission & Distribution infrastructure projects through the full lifecycle of a project from inception through final acceptance. Valid Driver''s license. The Preferred Bachelor''s degree or higher level of education in Engineering or Physics. Certification in Project Management. Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California. Seven or more years of engineering, construction, project management and/or operations experience within Transmission and Distribution. Experience managing or supervising transmission and substation major project work ranging from electrical, civil, structural, apparatus, protection, planning, telecommunication, and geotechnical components. Experience developing and/or coordinating development of the technical scope of work for each stage of a project (concept, licensing, execution, and turn over to operation). Experience leading the review of contract technical deliverables, carefully balancing the need to provide comments to the contractor to ensure specification requirements are met versus providing direction that could expose SCE to risks that would otherwise reside with the contractor. Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Excellent written and oral communications skills. You should know ... Work Mode: When a return-to-office date has been determined, this position''s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Position will require up to 20% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory. This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
