Job/Position DescriptionLocation: Forensic Maximum-Security Psychiatric FacilityAre you ready to be professionally challenged? The hospitals provide state-of-the-art treatment that is recovery-oriented and science-based. Whether in a direct-care or support role, your contribution will make a difference in the life of a Texan.Chaplain III - The Director of Chaplaincy - performs advanced (senior-level) complex ministerial clergy duties. The chaplain shall conduct duties according to state laws, board policies, Texas Administrative Code and state school policies and procedures. He/she shall have discretionary powers broad enough to accomplish duties and responsibilities as indicated below. The chaplain shall deliver services directly to clients, develop and coordinate services for all campus religious activities, facilitating integrated worship and social activities. Works with minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment and decision making.Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supportive role to meet the agencyand146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.Essential Job FunctionsAttends Work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.1. Conducts and oversees religious education programs and services.2. Ensures the exercise of the religious rights of clients.3. Conducts and/or facilitates regular and special religious services for clients.4. Provides sacred ministry in accordance with the practices and customs of the chaplainand146;s faith.5. Makes pastoral visits to clients, individuals who are hospitalized, and families or guardians of clients.6. Counsels clients on spiritual issues and institutional adjustment, and counsels families or guardians of clients.7. Arranges for ministerial services for clients of other religious backgrounds.8. Participates in self-advocacy programming.9. Provides briefings for New Employee Orientation.10. Communicates the agencyand146;s or institutionand146;s chaplaincy program to the communityand146;s religious and civic organizations and members of local faith groups, and conducts clergy orientation programs.11. Communicates the emotional and spiritual dimensions of issues confronting institutional clients to public schools, colleges and theological seminaries, and to local faith groups.12. Coordinates programs for the recruitment, training, and supervision of chaplaincy volunteers.13. Membership and participation on ethics or human rights committees.14. May conduct seminars on the religious and personality needs of clients for local clinical pastoral education programs.15. Works closely with interdisciplinary teams and other staff, as well as the Volunteer Services Council.16.
