Job DescriptionPosition Summary:Under the direction of the Continuous Improvement Manager, the Process Engineer assists, recommends, and implements projects that support 80/20 initiatives such as; operational process control, quality improvement, plant efficiency, supplier development, safety improvement, and new product development controls/process development. The Process Engineer assists with the ISO/Quality Management system by maintaining plant conformance and participating in various audits and may lead/manage entire projects. This position is based in our Chicago Heights, IL facility.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Executes on projects that improve plant profitability through scrap reduction, process efficiency, quality improvement and optimization of new products for successful commercialization.Conducts internal process capability studies to learn manufacturing and product limitations.Researches new technologies through design of experiments, Gauge R and R, and data analysis and processes applicable solutions to improving the manufacturability of key products.Creates Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, FMEA and Process Maps for existing and new processes and products.Assists in preparation of trials based on evaluation of formula or process to determine root cause or improve efficiency or product consistency.Collects, correlates, and analyzes data through evaluating experiments, production trends, and linking product quality and claims. Assists in conducting field evaluations, lab analysis, and baseline studies to provide data for improvements on customer''s product failures leading to reduced concessions.Assists Chemists in process tasks related to new product development manufacturing.Assists Quality Control with root cause analysis of customer complaint issues, utilizing the 8D approach.Occasionally travels to customer sites to gather data, support sales, troubleshoot process problems.Recommends controls/improvements to products and processes to improve operational performance and customer satisfaction based on product quality and consistency.Partners with plant personnel on improving/reducing operations issues affecting ink/coating preparation, manufacturing/finishing, and warehousing.Participates in process development/optimization teams for key new products.Researches outside resources (e.g. vendors, raw material suppliers, consultants) who can support evaluation and/or implementation of optimized processes.Assists with ISO, site, and vendor audits, ensuring product compliance to standard.Works safely, following all OSHA and company regulations and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsPosition Skills and Experience Requirements:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelor''s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field of study.Minimum of 2-4 years'' experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment using tools such as 80/20, Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc. to improve quality and productivity.Relevant experience and/or training with manufacturing processes and unit operations used in the chemical/film industry.Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills; Ability to communicate status on project with colleagues, keep team members informed, and responds clearly to inquiries. Organized work style: excellent time management, prioritization abilities, and strong project management skills. Strong analytical ability and logical problem-solving skills. Ability to gather and analyze data and present findings with actionable recommendations. Working knowledge of techniques for improving scrap reduction, automated process equipment up-time improvements, lead time reductions, etc.Strong technical skills/aptitude: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Prefer candidates with Six Sigma Green Belt Certification with organic chemistry formulation, working knowledge of computer aided drafting and working knowledge of SharePoint Designer / workflows.Working Conditions and Physical Effort:Work is performed in office and manufacturing work environments.Limited physical effort required. Frequent sitting and standing.Limited exposure to machinery and flammable substances.
