Job DescriptionPosition Summary:The primary purpose of this position is to provide expertise and consult for the management of behavioral health conditions and medications. In doing so, the Psychiatrist supports clinical management of members with behavioral health conditions that are driving healthcare utilization and poor health outcomes. The Psychiatrist supports and guides Regal''s primary and specialty care physicians to build their capacity to manage patients with behavioral health conditions. The Psychiatrist is fully integrated into medical management within the SFV campus, providing clinical expertise to clinicians and Regal care team members to enable effective and holistic care management of members with behavioral health conditions across the continuum of care.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:•Consultant for medical management related to psychiatric services and management of behavioral health conditions and medications.•Supports clinical management of members with behavioral health needs.•Guide medical and case management of members with behavioral health diagnoses, working closely with Medical Directors to identify and respond to behavioral health conditions impacting health outcomes and healthcare utilization.•Promotes access to behavioral health services and liaises with behavioral health providers and members. Includes working with existing Behavioral Health providers to support co-management efforts.•Counsel primary and specialty care providers treating Regal members with behavioral health conditions and related medication management needs.•Supports and coaches case management team in engaging and working with members with behavioral health issues.•Train staff and promote incorporation of best practices related to behavioral health conditions and behavioral health service provision or navigation.•Use effective relationship management, resource management, advocacy, and pertinent interventions to:o Promote improved quality of care and patient quality of life.o Promote maintenance or improvement of functional level.o Promote cost effective medical interventions and outcomes.o Prevent hospitalization and readmission whenever possible and appropriate.•Management/monitoring of Behavioral Health patients to include periodic phone calls and in-person visits, post-hospital follow-ups and direct contact in acute (hospital/skilled nursing facility) clinic and community settings.•Attend daily outpatient meetings, and other interdisciplinary team meetings, as appropriate.•Actively participate in Interdisciplinary Care Team meetings by presenting appropriate Behavioral Health cases for discussion and contribute at meetings to promote total case management.•Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient''s needs.•Record accurate information in all required documentation systems in accordance with company policy, compliance regulations and quality standards.•May assume leadership role of interdisciplinary care team when appropriate.•Maintain strong working knowledge of healthcare system, behavioral health providers and delegations of risk for behavioral health services by line of business for the company, as well as organization''s outpatient care protocols.•Identifies root drivers of hospital admissions.•Identifies community resources to address patients'' needs.•All other duties as assigned.Education and/or Experience:Graduate from accredited medical schoolBoard certified (current)/eligible in own specialtyActive California medical licenseCurrent Federal DEAAdditional credentials as required by virtue of specialtyValid CA Driver''s license.Experience with Medi-Cal beneficiaries preferred.RequirementsEducation and/or Experience:Graduate from accredited medical schoolBoard certified (current)/eligible in own specialtyActive California medical licenseCurrent Federal DEAAdditional credentials as required by virtue of specialtyValid CA Driver''s license.Experience with Medi-Cal beneficiaries preferred.
