Research Engineer iV The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Research Engineer iV.Position Details Location Marine Research Center 1030 West Pier, Port of GulfportGulfport, Mississippi, 39501United States Division Ocean Enterprise Position Type Staff Employment Status Full Time Grant Funded Yes Salary Range 70,536.00 - 95,432.00 Pay Grade E14 Posting Close Date 12/31/2022 Job Summary This is senior professional level, research engineering work with the responsibility for developing, planning, and managing engineering research projects to advance maritime uncrewed systems (fixed, mobile) research, development, testing,evolution and training. Incumbents are expected to conduct, evaluate, and interpret engineering data and studies with considerable independent judgment and discretion under the general supervision of a higher-level engineer, scientist or an administrative or technical supervisor. Interaction with members of local, state, and federal regulatory entities, special interest groups, and the general public, including speaking to large and small groups is required. Incumbents at this level act as project managers in the performance of related duties and supervision will be exercised over others. The position is based at USM''s Roger F. Wicker Center for Ocean Enterprise , but activities can occur at other USM facilities and facilities of other organizations, including research vessels.Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to Roger F. Wicker Center for Ocean Enterprise goals by participating in writing funding proposals, keeping appropriate individuals on the OE staff informed of activities and providing status reports for documenting milestones and meeting funding obligations regarding projects. Oversees development, implementation and management of ocean research projects including planning, proposal development, budgets and scheduling. Provide leadership and mentorship in research projects and serve as project coordinator for these projects. Lead, coordinate, communicate, integrate, and be accountable for the overall success of the program. Oversee integration, installation, and operation of optionally crewed systems and related technologies, and execute test and evaluation of these systems and technologies.Provide technical and programmatic expertise for crewed, uncrewed, and optionally crewed systems research to the Director for RDT&E and Training, project leads/principal investigators other USM researchers and external partners Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications BSE plus 8 years of specialized experience. USCG licensed captain. Uncrewed Systems Piloting Certifications.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesMastery of the professional theories, concepts, principles, and practices of engineering pertaining to a specialized field.
