OverviewThe Director of Finance for Birdsong will provide leadership for all financial operations. As a member of the Birdsong management team, reporting to the Head of Finance for Birdsong and its subsidiaries, the Director will provide leadership and support in operational financial-related activities and ensure that management has the reporting to make key decisions associated with running the operations.ResponsibilitiesKey Operational Financial Reporting Work with Birdsong, and its subsidiaries leadership on the vision of Birdsong, including cultivating and fostering relationships at all business units. Maximize return on investments by identifying profitable service lines and clients by managing the daily financial reporting aligned with managing a discount, or third-party administrator. Serves as a strong financial thinker on the management team and work closely with the team to ensure that business objectives are met. Demonstrates a willingness to take on new challenges with a positive, roll-up sleeves attitude. Represents Birdsong and its subsidiaries, as directed by Head of Finance, with clients, prospects, and in other business partnerships and relationships with a polished, professional business acumen. Partner with Head of Pricing and Benefit Design, with oversight of Head of Finance, to develop and maintain comprehensive strategic pricing models for Birdsong and its subsidiaries, services to ensure adequate coverage of costs, achievement of margin targets, and enhancement of decision making. In conjunction with the Head of Finance, provide financial discipline and business decision support to evaluate long-term and short-term strategic business opportunities for Birdsong and its subsidiaries.Tactical/Operational As lead by the Head of Finance, and under such direction, develop and maintain comprehensive Birdsong and subsidiaries, financial model by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements, identifying monetary resources, and developing action plans. Report financial status of Birdsong and its subsidiaries by developing forecasts, reporting results, analyzing variances, and developing improvements. In conjunction and with strategic direction of the Head of Finance, accomplish Birdsong and its subsidiaries, finance department human capital strategies by determining accountabilities; communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures; implementing recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, disciplinary, and communication programs; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation strategies. Implement Birdsong and its subsidiaries, finance operational strategies by evaluating trends; establishing critical measurements; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; accumulating resources; resolving problems; implementing change in conjunction with the Head of Finance. Proactively identify opportunities for Birdsong and its subsidiaries, operational improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement. Implement financial framework driven by the Head of Finance and President of Birdsong and its subsidiaries, to include financial acumen and accountability across Birdsong and its subsidiaries; provide timely and meaningful analyses and reporting to all business unit operational leaders. Collaborate with Head of Finance and internal partners to develop financial and tax strategies for Birdsong and its subsidiaries. Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial forecasting. Drive direction of Head of Finance for all financial transactions, including billing, finance, accounting, and reporting. Work with the Head of Finance on all capital request process; conduct due diligence and recommendation on the timing and implementation and of significant development or technology investments. Take direction from Head of Finance, for contract negotiations from a financial impact perspective when called upon. Adhere to financial internal controls and coordination of all financial audits. With collaboration of the Head of Finance, construct and monitor reliable control systems. Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and licensing. Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements. Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies. Report risk issues to the Head of Finance, President, and appropriate Committees.Financial Operations Report financial status of clients by developing forecasts, reporting results, analyzing variances, and developing improvements. Monitor financial performance of Birdsong and its subsidiaries clients by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances. Develop and monitor policies and procedures within general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and corporate guidelines to ensure sufficient cash flow, reduce operating costs, and increase revenues. Maintain general ledger structure, chart of accounts, policies, and procedures to enable financial statement preparation and compliance with all required financial audits. Promote efficient workflows and business processes to meet the need of financial information of multiple internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with underwriting, pricing and benefit design, and analytical teams to assimilate actuarial pricing and medical trend information into financial forecasts, where applicable.Collaborate with finance team to supervise the financial records of Birdsong and its subsidiaries clients, ensure that bookkeeping is in order, best operational practices are implemented, and regulatory compliance is managed.QualificationsPROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QuALIFICATIONSRequirements and Must Have Criteria Leadership and Operational Endurance: Success for this role must have at least 5-10 years of experience with demonstrated success as a member of management in finance with significant health care, provider, TPA, health plan, or medical device operational accountability. Ability to hold higher level positions over time. Deep Healthcare/Health Plan/TPA with Preferred Hearing Aid Domain Expertise: Mission-oriented and energetic, the person must have a demonstrated track record of success in the US healthcare sector with a passion for finances. The ideal candidate should have experience in a health plan finance department and/or within supplemental benefits. Staff Management and People Development Skills: Proven and successful track record recruiting, mentoring, and inspiring and empowering individuals with an ability to hold people accountable and to deliver superior performance. Excellent emotional intelligence and ability to identify their own strengths and gaps to maximize impact. Demonstrated ability to delegate effectively and to establish clear guidelines for accountability. Interpersonal, Communication, and Relational Building Skills: Ability to relate to and effectively work with a diverse group of individuals, groups, and people collaboratively and diplomatically. Proven ability to engage internal and external constituencies. The person must possess an uncanny ability to handle and to resolve conflict in a productive and direct manner. Excellent oral and written communications are a must. Understanding of the US Managed Care Market including government programs and commercial. Seasoned experience in the Medicare Advantage market, surrounding financial modeling preferred. Impeccable values, ethical standards, and a strong moral compass with integrity. Business savvy and exceptional financial acumen.Successful candidates for the Director of Finance role will possess the following: At least five to 10 years of financial/accounting experience with most recent experience in a management oriented financial leadership role. A solid financial team player with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus. Strong leadership skills marked by a collaborative team orientation. Ability to motivate team members at all levels to cultivate a dynamic and highly productive work environment. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation. Experience working on the financing, due diligence, and integration relative to mergers and acquisitions is a plus. Effectively interact with customers to understand their needs and explain data. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone with members, employer groups, brokers, physicians, and physician office staff using strong dialogue and customer service competencies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with non-technical administrators. EDUCATIONA Bachelors degree is required. A Masters degree, MBA and/or Certified Public Accountant designation is preferred.
