Job DescriptionSUMMARY:The Network Engineering Manager is a leadership position directly supporting the organization in the implementation of capital and operational projects, accomplishing corporate objectives, achieving financial targets, and providing top-tier escalation support. The Network Infrastructure Engineering Manager is responsible for championing and driving organizational and technological change with the goal of continuously improving Advance Auto Parts'' ability to serve our customers better than anyone else. As a result, the expectation is that this individual will continuously challenge the status quo and drive for actionable insights to improve IT Operations & Engineering. In addition, this role is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with the appropriate Business Units and IT Leadership Teams and their direct reports and serve as the main escalation point for issues which cannot be resolved by Operational Teams. This role will have direct reports and will be accountable for contractor deliverables, vendor agreements, and statements of work. This role will require the individual to both lead a team and work closely within that team to achieve specific goals. The successful candidate will be able to collaborate directly with other IT and business departments and handle several different projects at the same time. This position has a specific focus on the Advance Auto Parts'' Network and Cloud Infrastructure and requires knowledge of Datacenter, Distribution Center, Corporate, Store, and Cloud Network Concepts.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INDE THE FOLLOWING - OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED:Drive Operations Transformation byPartnering with internal and external stakeholders to plan for, design, and implement solutions that drive continuous improvement focusing on enhancing the end user experience through application stability, performance, usability, and functionalityCollaborating with Stakeholders on new services and functionality. Define requirements, device solutions, introduce these new capabilities into production, and turn them over to operational teams.Ensure the appropriate Monitoring, Automation, and AI/ML Solutions are in place to rapidly identify and recover from any service impacting events and continuously improve MTTR.Monitor and ensure the compliance of the Supplier against Service Level Agreements (SLA) across all 3rd Party Managed Service Providers. This includes participation in regular performance reviews, monitoring service level and service management issues, and developing new contract amendments and metrics as needed.Participate and lead (as required) in on-call rotations.Seek and consult with those who have principal level knowledge of network technologies, design standards, and positive and negative attributes of those. Including- TCP/IPv4 protocol suite, DNS, DHCP, NTP, Routing Protocols, Routing Domain architectures, LAN/WAN technologies, Data Center Fabric, Telecommunications Services, Information Security standards, SD-WAN, and Wireless Network technologies.A broad understanding of IT security standards and best practices for network infrastructure/service design. Including Network Segmentation, Data Center Service Isolation architectures, AAA services, Group Identity Structures, Layered Security architecture, and a Cooperative Policy framework.A strong understanding of enterprise application and service environments. Including Cloud deployments, Web-App-DB application architectures, Enterprise Services and Middleware operations, and Shared Infrastructure services.Consult with internal and external experts on topics such as Routing and Switching including VLANs, Ethernet, WANs, LANs, Spanning Tree, vPC, Port Channels, and industry best practices.A working understanding of routing and switching, remote data center operations, and a multi-tier data center segmentation model.Understanding of the implementation of SSL for web services, load-balancing SSL services, managing multi-site certificates and procuring certificates.Ability to understand WAN circuit technologies, such as SDN, MPLS, VRF, OC/SONET, DWDM, as well as the implementation, management and the associated industry best practice troubleshooting methods.QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Consistent communication and keeping requester informed of project, ticket, or request status. Ability to translate end-user concerns to technical needs for communication within team or with other IT teams. Ability to utilize MS Visio or similar tools to create network drawings and MS PowerPoint to create and give presentations.Good collaboration skills, within team and with others. The Engineering Manager must have the ability to work with others in a collaborative way, sharing his/her ideas/opinions, and be able to comfortably voice opinion, express justification for and accept alternate opinions.Prioritizing implementation/operational tasks based on alignment with defined urgency and prioritization guidelines.Must be able to manage requirements gathering, technical definition and task tracking to be successful.Experience in leading and owning critical customer communications, including regular status reviews, to ensure effective delivery and customer satisfactionUnderstanding of how systems communicate over an IP network, the differences between TCP and UDP communication, what applications / OS / NICs are responsible for in the communication stack.Firm understanding of design and operation of network firewalls, IPS, and Proxy systems, where they are located, and impact they could have on communication between areas of the network. Able to use event management tools to research and identify general impacts on connectivity due to network firewall or IPS systems.Must be able to understand detailed technical systems, how they interoperate, what functionality they provide, and ultimately- what really matters with each of them. For many cases, that means knowing how things interact and where potential problems may be in troubleshooting issues. Must understand that design decisions are all too often more important than supporting the solution later and that these rely on answering many of the same questions.Must understand key business functions, technical solutions supporting them, and identify potential risks involved with changes or activities that he/she is responsible for. Able to effectively guide principal, senior, associate and contract engineers, working alongside of them when necessary to show them the key factors to manage throughout their project/task. The manager should highlight the key caveats and goals for the related work. The Manager must have experience with design and implementation of all relevant technical solutions that he/she will be responsible for.Able to review, analyze and translate business requirements into the appropriate technical solutions, providing design that adheres to enterprise network architecture standards.LI-KN-AAP
