POSITION SUMMARY: The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The Mechanical Engineer 2 position includes performing a wide range of activities associated with the design, simulation, analysis, and manufacturing of mechanical components in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III. All work within the NSSS Engineering organization is completed under the ASME NQA-1 quality assurance program and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform and review engineering evaluations in accordance with NuScale company procedures, through the application of comprehensive engineering structural mechanics fundamentals, and standard industry computer aided engineering software. Provides structural engineering support to the Design team to assist with design solutions that satisfy acceptance criteria. Experience using ANSYS simulation software is desired. Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams. Possesses strong written and oral communication skills. Team Building: Capable of developing strong interpersonal networks and trust within the organization. Safety Culture: Adheres to the NuScale Safety culture and is expected to model safe behavior and influence peers to meet high standards. Quality Assurance: Demonstrates understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1. MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES: Education/Certification: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. An advanced engineering degree is preferred. Experience: A minimum of 2 years of full-time relevant working experience is required. An advanced degree me be credited for 1 year of working experience. Must have strong technical writing skills as well as good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required. Additional experience in the following areas is desired: Use of software: CAD (e.g., NX, SolidWorks), Finite Element Analysis (e.g. ANSYS Workbench), normal office software (e.g., Microsoft Office products) Structural Analysis of components for steady state and transient events Computer programming skills (e.g., Python, Visual Basic) Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
