River Electric Power Cooperative has a full-time opening for an apprentice or journeyman RTU/Automation Technician.This rewarding technical position within the electrical power industry implements and maintains some of the latest technology utilizing digital equipment, fiber optic networks and wireless communications to monitor, measure, and control the power system and related substation equipment. East River Electric is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative with a main campus located in Madison, South Dakota. We deliver wholesale power to our members, which include 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally-owned electric system in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Our members, in turn, power the properties of the member-owners in their service territories.Our CommunityThis job opportunity is located at our main campus in Madison, South Dakota. Learn more about Madison on our website: About the JobResponsibilities encompass the installation, programming, functional testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of related control schemes and power system equipment. Examples of this equipment include:Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition (SCADA)Protective relays and substation control systemsRevenue meteringStation DC battery systems and chargersPower transformers, power circuit breakers, instrument transformers, capacitor banksMotor Operated Switches (MOS)About YouYou are detailed and logical. You possess the analytical and problem solving skills needed to collect and organize data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. You are results-oriented, self-motivated and enjoy working in a team environment. Key Requirements:Certificate, diploma or associate degree in electrical utilities and substation technology, automation controls, powerline, telecommunications, or a related technical field of study. Relevant work experience in the electric utility industry preferred.
