Job Description Overview The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Part-Time IT Technician working 8:00 pm to 12:00 am Monday - Through Friday for our to join our Virginia Beach office. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services firm with a variety of contract types. Responsibilities include but are not limited to * Tier 1 trouble ticket generation and resolution. * Access servers and network equipment via remote desktop and SSH; provide technical Wi-Fi support to customers. * Proactively monitor client systems for early detection and correction of errors. * Perform daily operational status checks of systems using established procedures. * Diagnose and troubleshoot system problems based on procedures and processes. * Ensure systems are operating as designed and provide constructive feedback on procedures and processes already in place. * Generate daily status reports and report updates of client systems. * Escalation of tickets to Tier 2 in accordance with client specific SLAs when troubleshooting procedures and processes fail to resolve system problems. * Configuration, optimization and troubleshooting of network devices to include: Routers, Wireless access points, Servers, and Firewalls * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Candidates must possess the following professional experience & qualifications: * Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Systems Technology (Network Administration or Network Infrastructure Specialist) or related discipline highly desired * Relevant training applicable Information Systems Technology career field may be substituted for an applicable degree * At least 4 years of technical experience related to: * Provide fault isolation and resolution using established procedures and processes. * Linux or router operating systems * IP routing and switching * Wi-Fi installation and troubleshooting network outages, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Windows environments * Network monitoring systems (such as SolarWinds) * Windows 7, 10, and Windows Server environments * Remotely managing endpoints using Windows Remote Desktop (RDP) and SSH * Trouble ticketing systems * Properly documenting support and repair activities. * Pass standard background check and drug screen. Desired Characteristics: * Technical certifications preferred * Experience configuring Linux configuration and/or managing SQL server. * Oracle database administration. * Be self-motivated to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills with propensity for providing strong customer service. * Root cause analysis of difficult problems. * Resolution of known technical errors.
