Position Overview Reporting to the Director of Corporate Accounting and Reporting, this position is responsible for leading the consolidation of USG Corporation''s financial results which include subsidiaries in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America and Europe and the accounting for USG Corporate. This individual will also be responsible for ensuring that accounting and reporting policies are applied consistently and appropriately across the company. This role has two direct reports. Responsibilities A focus on process improvement, teamwork, and delivering results will be critical. Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Run the monthly accounting close and consolidation process, including communicating and managing to the close calendar and working closely with operations personnel, other accounting teams, financial shared services and tax to ensure deadlines are met and issues are communicated in a timely manner. Accountability for the consolidation of the corporation''s results for reporting to USG management and to parent company with appropriate elimination of intercompany transactions. Annually translate the balance sheet and income statement from US GAAP to German GAAP for parent company reporting Analytically review monthly reported corporate and consolidated results against previous periods to identify unusual activity and/or transactions and communicate financial results and financial trends as required. Responsible for leading monthly review meetings to discuss unusual transactions and review consolidated financial statements. Responsible for the review of long-term incentive plan and retirement benefit plan accounting to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and external reporting requirements. Partner with the Financial Planning and Analysis department on internal reporting and management support. Actively participate in company employee engagement initiatives and provide regular coaching and feedback to staff related to technical and professional development. Provide overall support by investigating accounting questions, issues and judgments and by partnering with team members from other business units to assist with accounting questions. Develop and implement accounting process change by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes. Take initiative to continually improve efficiency in accounting and reporting processes. Assist with ad hoc projects assigned by senior management including IT enhancements for the financial and management reporting processes, analysis of business operations, proposed accounting treatment of unusual transactions or other accounting and finance related matters. Qualifications Candidate Profile In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following: At least 8 years of experience in accounting is required, in roles of increasing complexity and responsibility. Experience managing professional staff is required regardless of background; Technical knowledge in accounting and internal control: must possess a high degree of technical knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls over financial reporting; Knowledge of German GAAP a plus Solid academic credentials, including a CPA certification and maintenance of continuing education requirements are required; Excellent analytical and technical research skills and ability to make sound business decisions in complex and ambiguous business environments; Unquestioned integrity, moral character, ethics and values -- one whom an organization can trust without reservation; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to drive change confidently, rapidly and effectively by influencing behavior, even in the absence of clear formal authority; Experience with Oracle and Hyperion Financial Management preferred. Leadership Competencies and Interpersonal Skills This individual should be a self-starter who does not require constant assistance from their manager for direction.
