Work hours are standard business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Some scheduling adjustments may be necessary to accommodate coverage for agency related activities. This position will be required to travel between sites and in the community to attend meetings, events, and consultations. Cascadia''s Health Centers are located in NE and SE Portland, as well as one in Milwaukie, OR., Clackamas County. Job OverviewThe Phlebotomist is to use their medical training to take blood samples from patients, while ensuring a person-centered approach.This position must understand, appreciate, and respect the diversity and cultural differences within our Cascadia community. Management reserves the right to modify, add or remove duties as necessary. Prepare patients before drawing municate with and assist patients in a professional and courteous manner. Explain blood draw procedures to patients and answer any questions about the process.Follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areasComplete lab requisition forms and produce appropriate labels for forms and specimen tubes.Review the laboratory schedule; verify and complete orders. Identify the patient and confirm the correct patient record. Monitor and resolve orders in the electronic medical record.Obtain blood specimens from patients per laboratory orders by performing venipunctures and finger sticks, process medical laboratory tests and document plete appropriate laboratory forms documenting tests performed and provide diagnoses correlating to tests performed.Enter patient demographics, tests performed and diagnoses correlating to tests performed in the EMR.Maintain records and documentation for proficiency testing and to meet COLA and CLIA requirements and regulations.Serve as a back-up for clinical team members as needed by controlling patient flow, performing EKG tests, obtaining blood pressure measurements, documenting vital signs in the EMR and administering injectables.Order and maintain adequate laboratory supplies.Clean and maintain the laboratory including equipment.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation:A minimum of one certification or license from one of the following:American Society of Clinical PathologistsAmerican Medical TechnologistsNational Health Career AssociationAmerican Society of Phlebotomy TechniciansExperience:One to three years of experience in PhlebotomyCommunity based Medical and Behavioral Health background preferredSpecialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Demonstrated knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, applications, and tests.Demonstrated knowledge of medical laboratory safety, cleanliness, and infection control policies andregulations.Demonstrated knowledge of medical laboratory equipment uses and maintenance.MS Office applications, with an emphasis on ExcelOperate computer hardware and software at a level needed to effectively perform job functionsDetail Oriented: Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.Flexibility: Ability to adapt easily to changing conditions and work responsibilities.Positivity: Display a positive attitude and is a positive agent for change.Teamwork: Work as part of a team and collaborate with co-workers.Working Under Pressure: Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.Other:Ability to commute to various Cascadia sites and community locations as needed.Core CompetenciesLeadership and Decision Making:Strong interpersonal and organizational skillsGood judgment, a high level of professional integrity and the discretion to handle confidential and sensitive informationAbility to perform work accurately and terpersonal:Strong interpersonal and communication skills, to include excellent verbal and written communicationDisplay a high degree of sensitivityAbility to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.Ability to adapt easily to changing conditions and work responsibilitiesEffectively engage with internal providers, external providers, and stakeholdersDemonstrate strong business acumen and negotiation skillsDevelop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over timeWork independently as well as part of a teamFoster a cohesive workplace for employeesDemonstrate initiative and creativity in approach to problems and tasksUnderstand, appreciate, and respect diversity and cultural differencesWorking ConditionsWork is performed at Cascadias various locations throughout the Cascadia network. There is frequent exposure to bodily fluids and possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a laboratory and medical office environment.Mental Demands: The work assigned is diverse and involves facing new and unusual circumstances. The work requires the ability to manage several situations at one time. Time management skills are important to ensure timely resolution to issues or problems that directly affect the employees and their work sites.
