Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients objectives and solves their challenges. In this role you will provide technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase environmental work processes, due diligence, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects; substantiate reports and documentation to advise on field conditions, movement, and outcome of overall risks to ecological and human health; assist project leadership with site assessment, corrective strategies, classification of contaminated materials, and assisting with their treatment, disposal, and/or onsite remediation.Your ImpactDetermine well-defined data collection methods for extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from soil sampling, soil-gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.Manage and assist with environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).Research environmental hazmat databases regarding historical property land uses.Manage and coordinate site investigations, subsurface borings and trenching projects, site remediation activities, spill response and clean activities, and groundwater and extraction well installations and operation.Coordination of drilling subcontractors and WSP Staff during sample collection, well installations, and well abandonment.Review data and visualizations such as mineral charts, soil analyses, groundwater modeling, maps geologic cross-sections, and other illustrations.Oversee and maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, analysis, and reporting.Assist with development and scoping of moderate to complex projects.Review project information from WSP staff and subcontractors to ensure it includes complete, accurate, and concise documentation.Prepare and review technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or clean-up chemical and environmental problems and contamination.Manage and review analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of geologic, hydrogeologic, and chemical data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation activities.Manage and work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.Ensure subcontractors and WSP staff comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, trench and boring, laboratory documentation, written procedures, monitoring systems, and logbooks.Prepare, review, and implement site Project Safety Plans (PSPs).Comply with company and regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and teract with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSPs Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.Who You AreRequired QualificationsBachelors Degree in Geology, or closely related discipline.5 to 7 years of experience working as an Environmental Scientist.40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120)Analytical skills, and proficient with geological research techniques and protocol.Working knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products., and mitigation programs.Working knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.Experience sampling soil and groundwater via drilling including direct-push, hollow-stem auger, and other similar drilling methods.Experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards.Experience with TRRP investigations, reporting and remediation.Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells, remediation wells, and soil gas wells.Experience writing groundwater monitoring reports and well installation reports.Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSPs health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.Preferred QualificationsMasters Degree is preferred.Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.Must successfully complete and pass WSPs Motor Vehicle screening.This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests.
