Maker Fellow & Girls Clubs of Western PennBoys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania (BGCWPA) is seeking a Maker Fellow to help support our existing, robust maker-centered STEM programs and to help grow our new makerspace! The Fellow will join a team of STEM educators with diverse backgrounds and talents. Fellows will have the opportunity to create curriculum and resource playbooks for the program. Additional opportunities will revolve around piloting instruction to youth ages 5-12 about the basics of STEM and other fun learnings such as salt crystal garden chemistry, prototyping zoo exhibits, exploring engineering with cardboard to designing solutions to community problems. The Maker Fellow will join a team that supports intro-level STEM for ages 5-12 who attends our 8 Clubhouses twice weekly. The Fellow will help create resources and activities for our nine week summer camp that features intro-level STEM activities daily. The Fellow will assist in expanding our school-year programming and summer programming. The Fellow will also curate, develop, and pilot specialty STEM programs for youth ages eight and up, including classes and camps such as Girls Only Maker Club, Open Making, and LEGO Robotics, many of which would occur at our new makerspace. As part of our team, the Fellow will support the organizational goal to become a hub for maker-centered STEM learning in the Pittsburgh area. Fellow future work will include curriculum resource development and sharing. As a Maker Fellow, you will join a cohort of 20 AmeriCorps VISTA members placed at leading organizations across the country and participate in a year-long structured and collaborative learning pathway. Benefits include a living stipend of $14,960.40/year, a $500/month housing stipend, a Segal Education Award of $6,195 upon successful completion or end of year cash stipend of $1,800, healthcare coverage, and child care subsidy. Please visit to learn more about this unique opportunity.Member Duties : This program will connect K-12 students to maker-centered learning opportunities that help students build the academic and social emotional skills key to their success in school, postsecondary enrollment and workforce placement. Maker Fellows, through service in their local communities and participation in targeted professional development, will become life-long leaders and champions of maker-centered learning and mentorship for under-served students. Maker-centered learning provides a unique chance for students to explore the real world through designing, hacking, building, and experimenting, through the use of digital design and fabrication technologies and makerspaces.
