General Position Summary & Responsibilities: The Project Manager (PM) will work as a part of the Technology and Operations Development Team led by the Sr. Director of Technology and will report to the National Project Manager (NPM) The PM is charged with implementing and overseeing specific capital projects throughout the Auto/Metals Recycling (AMR) division and joint venture operations - primarily in the Auto Shredders and Joint Products facilities. The PM will have direct oversight within a number of regional facilities (Oakland, Tacoma, Portland, etc) regarding effective implementation of different projects within the AMR business division. The PM will be active upon the acquisition of different systems, equipment or building installations; will coordinate with suppliers to ensure all technical specifications are met or exceeded; as well as coordinate with Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S) teams to facilitate the required criteria for permit applications of such projects. Throughout the project execution, the PM will coordinate activities with all the vendors, suppliers and installers to ensure that they all meet the H&S activities as well as coordinate with local operation teams to facilitate a proper communication channel with the facility stakeholders - including shredder and joint product managers, plant managers, and regional managers.This position operates within broad parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.Essential Functions: Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)Providing a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.Works with the Maintenance Managers at each Yard to ensure that a comprehensive safety program is in place for all maintenance and repair activities, including a review of the safety program during every visit to the yard on any ongoing project he/she is overseeing.Operational Performance & Best Business PracticesCoordinates project management activities between vendors/suppliers and facility stakeholders to ensure the timely execution of projects within the AMR business division.Stakeholders may include regional environmental teams, H&S teams, and operations teams.Oversees procurement activities tied to projects being managed, including but not limited to fabrication, installation services (mechanical/electrical), as well as civil and other activities.Ensures that all process and procedures regarding capital assets of the project adhere to compliance and company standards, as well as engineering protocols and national codes (OSHA, NEC, etc).Works with the Regional Management teams including regional operations teams, construction project teams and equipment managers to ensure the reasonable production/installation standards set during the procurement stage are met.Budgeting & ForecastingEnsures that the project budgets are effectively and efficiently utilized and met.Assists in the development of FY Capital Plans.Administrative ManagementMonitors supervisory practices for self and his/her indirect reports to ensure compliance with HR policies and union contracts.Reviews performance of indirect reports.Works with Human Resources personnel to prepare job descriptions.Special ProjectsSpecial projects as assigned.Specific Other Responsibilities (regional, location, compliance, etc.):Review of engineering mechanical drawings, general arrangement drawings, shop procedures and installation drawings will be necessary. The PM will be required to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the AMR Operation Managers (Shredder and Joint Products), Regional Managers, the AMR Purchasing Managers, the Maintenance Managers at the facilities and with other senior management within AMR. External contact will be by phone, email or in person. The PM will be required to develop and maintain effective relationships with preferred equipment suppliers and maintenance contractors.Job Conditions: This position will require frequent air travel. Visits to AMR yards in each region can be expected to be under all weather conditions. Physical hazards may be present due to the equipment and machinery used throughout the scrap yard and the presence of the scrap itself. This position will require work beyond normally scheduled hours at times in order to support the AMR operations.Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions: Ability to: lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally; sit for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; write by hand and keyboard for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; assemble papers, paper punch, staple, file; apply sufficient force to open and close file drawers. Ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Communication is primarily by phone, email and sometimes in person, with other departments within the Schnitzer Group. Visual acuity needed for close detail work, preparing and analyzing data figures, accounting, and computer use.Qualifications:Bachelor''s degree or equivalent on an Engineering Field preferably. Minimum of 10 years'' experience with a strong background in Project Management of industrial/manufacturing installations, preferably in the metals recycling industry - ferrous and non-ferrous metal recycling. Ability to review engineering drawings, shop drawings, mechanical/electrical drawings as well as read equipment manuals, blueprints, schematics, etc.Must have a keen understanding of metal recycling processing equipment and process design to work with others within the business to negotiate favorable terms and competitive rates for the purchase of new equipment; for maintenance service contracts; and to determine fair market value of all assets owned by AMR across all addition, a keen understanding of environmental permitting processes and or requirements; ability to work closely with AMR Environmental and Health & Safety teams. This position requires possession of a valid driver''s license and the ability to drive an automobile.Ability to apply logical principles to solve practical problems and deal with a large number of variables and determine a specific course of action. Ability to analyze data, to develop effective equipment strategies from such analysis, and to translate these strategies into effective actions at the operational level. Experience utilizing project management tools such as Microsoft Project and also familiarity with Windows, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, CAD Software, and other software tools.PLEASE NOTE: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
