Position SummaryThe Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. This person is expected to have very strong mechanical skills and to work with little or no supervision while performing complex maintenance on equipment necessary for the manufacturing of cement.RequirementsInspect plant process machinery and provide recommendations for repairInstall & repair plant process machinery and provide detailed written description of work performedOperate equipment such as boom-lifts, cranes, forklifts, and other related mobile equipmentProvide scope of work, parts requirements, and equipment requirements for repairs during both scheduled and unscheduled mill and kiln outagesPerform other duties and special projects as requiredMinimum Education and ExperienceHigh School or Equivalent, Some college preferredMust have minimum of four years experience in heavy process equipment, preferably in the mineral processing industry, or a minimum of six months experience cement plant operationsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesMust have knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systemsKnowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement preferredAbility to repair and rebuild plant equipment with little or no supervision viz. fans, blowers, pumps, elevators, crusher, clinker cooler, kiln, compressors, reclaimers, ball mills, vertical roller mills, air slides, gates, valves, coal mills, rail and truck loading equipment, air separators, FK pumps, air cannons, etc.Ability to reason through difficult operations/maintenance problems, resolve said problems and/or relate same to othersKnowledge of store room and tool room proceduresAbility to determine equipment conditions by visual observation and listening to its operation.Ability to remove and install guards and other equipment weighing up to 50 lbsAbility to inspect and repair dust collectorsAbility to align couplings, motors and gearboxes with indicators and other equipmentAbility to rebuild gearboxes and other equipmentAbility to maintain and replace bearingsAbility to lubricate equipment properlyAbility to splice conveyor belts; install idlers, tail pulleys and all other parts needed in a belt conveyorAbility to use tools such as impact plant wrenches up to 2 drive torque wrenches, hand and power tools and sledge hammers up to 12 hoursKnowledgeable of MSHA standards and requirementsKnowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibilityAbility to read, write and verbally communicate in the English languageMust be able to utilize various measuring devices (micrometers, square, level, etc.) including precision and specialized toolsMust be able to exhibit competence in shielded arc welding & flame cuttingMust be able to read gauges & keep accurate records of operating procedures and maintenance historyAbility to do mechanical assembly and fabrication.Understanding of basic vibration measurement and trendingAbility to do basic non-destructive testing / measurements such as thickness, mag particle, dye-penetrant, ultrasonic, etc.Ability to read and understand equipment manuals pertaining to operation, parts, maintenance and assembly (schematics as needed)Ability to operate maintenance trucks, forklifts and man lifts (standard and automatic)Must have excellent work ethic and safety recordAbility to be on call or work extended hours when requiredKnowledge of basic cement manufacturing processAbility to participate in and deliver tool box talksAbility to perform job safety risk assessmentsAbility to clean up the work place after the jobAbility to ensure good housekeeping in the shop and in the plantAbility to lead and direct.Consistently good attitude and behaviorAbility to use cell phone / other mobile devices to communicateAbility to communicate through e-mailsAbility to use CMMSBasic knowledge of MS officeMust understand and comply with lock-out procedure and safety requirementsPhysical RequirementsPhysical requirements include visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, climbing on equipment, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, climbing on equipment, working at heights up to 350 feet, repetitive motion, and squatting - all for extended periods of time (up to 12 hours) to perform the essential functionsMust be able to work days or nights as required during equipment outagesMust be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as requiredWalk/stand on uneven ground, walkways and catwalks throughout the work dayManually position crane lifted parts and equipment. Physically lift up to 75 lbs. parts waist high for mounting into positionAbility to work in tight areas to install and handle heavy parts (sideliners, slinger pans and other equipment)Must work outside in all weather conditions: heat, cold, dust, and wet a minimum of 8 hrs. per day. Work in high noise level areas while wearing proper PPE. May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDSs)
