DescriptionESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSMay take the resident to the dining roomPrepare food for eatingServe foodPrepare the resident for the meal to include positioning and hand hygieneProvide encouragement and conversation during the mealPrepare food, such as by cutting the meat, so that the resident may self-feedAssist a resident as he or she drinks a beverageIn some cases, feed the residentTake the resident back to the bed room or to another area of the facility as directed.Record food and fluid intake and report all findings to the charge nurse or designeeCommunicates effectively with Charge Nurse regarding residents needs and requestsAssists in transporting residents to and from dining roomsEncourages residents to perform and participate in the ADL of feeding and remains alert for resident safety throughout the meal process and clean up.Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality, assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Promotes adherence to the residents Bill of RightsUnderstands and adheres to the medical Centers Code of Conduct.Familiar with the Medical Centers Mission, Vision, and Values StatementsRESIDENTS RIGHTSMaintains the confidentiality of all resident care informationEnsures they knock on the door before entering the resident roomEnsure that all feeding personnel are knowledgeable of the residents responsibilities and rights including the right to refuse to eat.Reports such requests to the Nurse Manager or her designeeAllows the Resident to participate in any aspect of the feeding process.Participates in CQI activities as assignedAssist other personnel when needed as it relates to the meal timeBASIC COMPETENCIES Education:Experience:Skills:Good oral and written communication skillsGood interpersonal skillsSpeaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the positionJOB SETTING/ PHYSICAL DEMANDSAll patient care areas: contact with residents, visitors, and staffWorks in residents rooms and common rooms example dining roomsMust be constantly alert for resident safetyCommunicates with nursing personnelFrequently prolonged sitting, standing, walkingPositions and pushes, residentsProtective clothing worn: Face shield, glovesQualificationsEducationRequiredDiploma or better in High School
