Position: Half-Time Assistant Transportation Supervisor / Half-Time Mechanic Reports to: Transportation Supervisor FLSA Status: Non - Exempt Employment Status: Part-Time (1.0 FTE 0.5 Supervisor / 0.5 Mechanic) Salary & Benefits: Competitive hourly wage based on experience and district salary guidelines; eligibe for pro-rated benefits according to district policy. Location: Operations Building Summary: The Half-Time Transportation Supervisor / Half-Time Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the school district's transportation department and maintaining the safety and functionality of the district's vehicle fleet. This dual-role position combines administrative oversight with hands-on mechanical expertise to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant transportation services for students and staff. Minimum QualificationsL * High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate's degree in automotive/diesel mechanics preferred. * Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with school bus (S) and passenger (P) endorsements, or ability to obtain within 90 days. * ASE certifications in relevant areas (preferred). * Minimum 3 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair; school transportation experience strongly preferred. * Working knowledge of federal and state regulations related to school transportation. * Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. * Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in varying weather and environmental conditions. Assistant Transportation Supervisor (50%) * Coordinate transportation operations, including daily routes, scheduling, and driver assignments. * Supervise transportation staff, including bus drivers and aides, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. * Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations and safety standards. * Manage fleet usage, fuel logs, and maintenance schedules. * Coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities and special education needs. * Serve as a liaison with parents, staff, and school administrators to resolve transportation-related concerns. * Maintain accurate records for licensing, certifications, inspections, and driver training. * Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and transportation planning. Mechanic (50%) * Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on school buses and district vehicles, including engine, brake, electrical, and HVAC systems. * Conduct regular inspections to ensure vehicle safety and regulatory compliance. * Diagnose mechanical issues using diagnostic equipment and repair manuals. * Maintain records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs in accordance with district and state requirements. * Respond to on-road breakdowns or emergencies as needed. * Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and parts; order supplies as needed. * Ensure shop safety and cleanliness standards are upheld.
