Job Posting End Date:05-02-2025 The Managing Director of Government Affairs will report to the Senior Vice President, Federal Affairs. They will manage two direct reports as well as external consultants. They will oversee AEP's relationships with Members of Congress and their staff, advocate for AEP's policy interests by working with the Director, Public Policy, and internal SMEs to proactively promote policies that support AEP and our customers, and defend the company and our customers from negatively impactful legislation. The Managing Director will help develop and guide AEP Political Action Committee's giving strategy and attend related events. They will work closely with senior executives and represent the company at trade associations and other external organizations. Job DescriptionESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Manage lobbying team of two and several external consultants. Advocate in Congress on behalf of AEP and our customers. Participate with trade associations, organizations, and public advocacy groups on behalf of AEP as directed. Develop and implement AEP PAC strategy. Attend AEP PAC-related events. Respond to internal AEP requests and maintain strong relationships with colleagues. Work closely with AEP executives and internal subject matter experts. Develop and maintain knowledge of policies beneficial to the company. Research and monitor federal government activities affecting AEP's business and service territory. Demonstrate high ethical standards and support the company's Corporate Compliance Policy. Assume other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's degree in public policy, public relations, communications, or related disciplines. Work Experience: Minimum 10 years in community/government affairs, communications, or related industry experience, or at least 7 years with legislative or government work. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong understanding of government processes and legislative procedures at all levels. Analytical skills for interpreting complex policy issues. Expertise in public policy research and legislative tracking. Political awareness and current events knowledge. Valid driver's license with acceptable record. Sedentary hybrid work environment. #LI-HYBRID #AEPCareer Compensation Data Grade:SP20-012 Range:$183,033.00 - $237,941.50 USD The physical demand level is Sedentary: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, mostly sitting, with brief walking or standing.
