Senior Corporate Counsel, Patents Location:San Mateo, CA (hybrid - requiring in-office presence 2x a week) Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) seeks an experienced patent attorney to join our patent team in San Mateo, California. As Senior Corporate Counsel, you will support patent matters across PlayStation products and services, working with various business and legal teams. You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for patent portfolio development, licensing, and enforcement activities. The Senior Corporate Counsel will be the primary legal contact for patent issues related to several global business units, reporting to the Senior Director, Patents. Responsibilities include: Contributing to the development of SIE's global patent portfolio, including invention intake, review, and strategic management Managing patent preparation and prosecution, including oversight of outside counsel Growing SIE's patent portfolio through workshops and innovation sourcing activities Advising SIE leadership on strategic patent issues Training and supporting legal and business teams on patent matters Analyzing industry trends to inform patent portfolio strategy Collaborating with Sony Group's IP department as needed Building positive relationships with engineering, product management, and legal teams worldwide Refining and improving patent processes Qualifications: Law degree from an accredited U.S. law school and registered USPTO Patent Attorney Admission to a U.S. state bar; California State Bar preferred; must qualify for and maintain Registered In-House Counsel status in California Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field Minimum 12 years of post-qualified patent law experience At least 3 years in-house managing a large international patent portfolio Experience advising on legal issues in fast-paced environments Proficiency in drafting and negotiating IP agreements, especially patents Excellent communication skills Detail-oriented with strong client service orientation Ability to educate others on Intellectual Property effectively At least 2 years patent prosecution experience in a law firm setting Fluency in written and spoken Japanese is a plus #LI-SF1 Additional Information: Refer to our Candidate Privacy Notice for details on data processing and rights. The role's pay range is influenced by market data, location, and individual qualifications. The estimated base pay range is $246,700 - $370,100 USD.
