To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Senior Field Service Technician to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our Senior Field Service Technician is a technical expert within the field service team, responsible for leading advanced testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems and associated apparatus in both field and shop environments. This role demands exceptional technical expertise and leadership, handling the most complex, critical, and non-routine testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting projects. Preferred Locations: MI Responsibilities: * Lead complex testing, maintenance, and data collection on LV-HV systems (480V-600kV), including breakers (air, SF6, vacuum), relays, cables, transformers, and motor controls. * Perform advanced diagnostics using Doble, TTR, VLF, DC Hi-Pot, Power Factor, Tan Delta, and resistance testing methods. * Test and validate protection relays (electromechanical, solid-state, microprocessor); verify logic and functionality. * Develop and execute test plans and commissioning procedures for upgrades and new installations. * Supervise field crews-assign tasks, mentor technicians, and ensure safe, high-quality work. * Enforce project specifications, safety standards, LOTO, PPE, and JHA protocols. * Complete and maintain accurate reports, test results, and project documentation. * Communicate with customers-provide updates, gather requirements, and ensure satisfaction. * Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and test equipment according to safety and usage standards. * Support shutdowns, startups, maintenance, and emergency response as needed. * Troubleshoot and resolve field issues independently with minimal oversight. * Train and support junior technicians and apprentices. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * High school diploma or GED required. * An associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology, Power Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is preferred. * 7-10+ years of experience in power plants, industrial services, or power distribution, including P&C systems. * Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. * NETA Level III strongly preferred; journeyman or equivalent credentials accepted. * Skilled in relaying, MV/HV breakers, substation commissioning, and complex power system troubleshooting. * Strong field troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. * In-depth knowledge of NETA standards, safety protocols, and industry best practices. * Proficient in PowerDB for detailed procedure and results documentation. * Clear communicator-verbal and written-with clients, teams, and stakeholders. * Self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to resolve issues independently. * Well-organized and adaptable; manages shifting project priorities and deadlines. * Operates independently with strong interpersonal and leadership skills. * Experienced in mentoring and training junior technicians, promoting growth and skill-sharing. Other Requirements: * Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, periodic, unannounced random drug tests, and a pre-employment criminal background check. * Must be willing to travel, with a minimum of 75% coverage throughout the continental US. * Must be able to drive daily to customer job sites and be available for periodic overnight travel. * Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights. * Must complete annual safety training to remain compliant with company policies and safety regulations. Training may occasionally require travel outside the employee's assigned state or region. * Valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record. * A TWIC card is a plus. Working Conditions: This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call-outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces, adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves the risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites. Physical Requirements: The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling, and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
