We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to support our client, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), in fulfilling the equity goals outlined in the New York State Climate Act and NYSERDA’s Strategic Outlook. The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing clean energy engagement with Indigenous Nations and Indigenous-led organizations to ensure these communities are equitably included in New York's clean energy transition.Location: Remote (must reside in New York State) Travel: 30%-50% required, valid driver’s license needed Experience: 10+ yearsRole Overview:The Senior Project Manager will work across NYSERDA’s policy and program portfolios to deepen engagement with Indigenous Nations and Indigenous-led organizations. This role requires expertise in community engagement, clean energy, Indigenous policy, and equity-centered program development.Key Responsibilities:General Program Support (40%)Develop and support NYSERDA’s Indigenous Nation engagement strategy. Contribute to the creation of a government-to-government consultation policy. Create communication guidelines tailored to Indigenous Nation engagement. Coordinate with the Governor’s office and state/federal interagency partners, including DEC’s Office of Indian Nation Affairs and DOE’s Office of Indian Energy. Conduct research and consult with Indigenous energy and climate professionals. Develop internal resources to educate NYSERDA staff on Indigenous governance and priorities. Plan Indigenous cultural competency trainings with NYSERDA’s DEI team.Liaison & Relationship Management (50%)Serve as primary liaison to Indigenous Nations on clean energy and climate-related issues. Facilitate and support consultations and meetings between NYSERDA and Indigenous Nation leadership. Organize logistics for consultation events, including invitations, scheduling, accommodations, and technology needs. Ensure clear communication and follow-up on action items. Maintain contact lists and track engagement efforts. Coordinate with internal NYSERDA teams to ensure compliance with engagement protocols. Support understanding and information exchange between NYSERDA and Indigenous communities. Connect with community-based organizations serving Indigenous Peoples.Other Duties (10%)Participate in professional development and represent NYSERDA at events and conferences. Maintain relevant website content and internal documentation. Support other NYSERDA teams as needed.Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:10+ years of experience in Indigenous community engagement and/or clean energy policy. Bachelor’s degree and 7–10 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 5–7 years. Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, governance, and contemporary issues. Experience engaging historically marginalized communities. Proficiency in synthesizing complex technical information for various audiences. Proven project management and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal judgment, cultural humility, and collaborative work ethic.Preferred Qualifications:Lived experience as a member of an Indigenous community in New York State. Lived experience with environmental and social justice. Direct connections with NY-based Indigenous Nations. Familiarity with legislation related to Indigenous affairs and clean energy policy. Subject-matter experience in clean energy, energy efficiency, climate planning, or similar. Experience in research, policy development, or deployment of energy technologies.Technical Skills Required:Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint) Adobe Acrobat Familiarity with Salesforce (CRM), Confluence (knowledge base), and Oracle/PeopleSoft (contract/finance systems) is a plus—training provided.Key Competencies:Expertise in clean energy, equity, and Indigenous affairs. Ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects. Strategic thinker with strong leadership and mentoring skills.
