Position Type: Transportation/MechanicDate Posted: 8/27/2025Location: RSU #57 DistrictRegional School Unit 57 Job Description Title: Transportation Mechanic Reports to: Director of Transportation Qualifications Proficiency in preventive maintenance and mechanical repair of large vehicles, including gasoline and diesel engines and automatic transmissions. Valid State of Maine CDL, Class B with P & S endorsements (required), or the ability to obtain these endorsements within six (6) months of hire. Valid State of Maine Class B & C Vehicle Inspection License (required), or the ability to obtain these licenses within six (6) months of hire. Ability to communicate and cooperate effectively with bus drivers, parents, community members, and school personnel. Job Goal To ensure the safe and efficient operation of all district vehicles by performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and mechanical repairs. Work collaboratively with other mechanics and communicate effectively with office staff regarding vehicle status and service needs. Performance Responsibilities Perform diagnostics and repair work on district vehicles and equipment. Conduct routine maintenance and preventive care of vehicles and equipment. Assist in maintaining inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment. Support the purchase of parts and supplies and maintain accurate records and inventories. Promote and uphold high standards of safety, organization, and cleanliness in all work areas. Assist drivers in preparing vehicles for operation. Serve as a substitute driver when needed. Perform duties in compliance with all District requirements and Board of Education policies. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, crouching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift between 25-75 lbs., depending on task requirements. During winter months, assist with snow removal within the maintenance garage complex. Terms of Employment Hourly position. Work year and conditions of employment established by the RSU 57 School Board. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy on evaluations.
