Field Engineer

Description ALTR's Field Engineering role is one of the most prestigious roles in the company. Reporting directly to the CTO, the ALTR Field Engineering Team is a crucial part of the company which leads and contributes to R&D projects, pre-sales solutioning, post-sales implementation, partner ecosystem integrations as well as lead an outward facing persona to help the market understand who ALTR is and what our solutions can do for businesses of all sizes. Put simply, the Field Engineer is the CTO's eyes, ears, fingers and voice in the field. Job Duties: * Ability and willingness to learn the ALTR product as well as our supported data platforms inside and out * Work with Product and Engineering teams to solution newly released features into actionable integrations for customers and users (demos, open-source projects, customer environments) * Work with our Sales team to craft, produce and conduct strategic demos which highlight the features and value of our product * Work with CTO and R&D to run experiments, build prototypes and integrations between ALTRs product and other products in the data ecosystem (CDW, ETL, Data Catalogs, etc) * Lead technical workshops for both internal teams and external customers to educate others on the best use of ALTR * Troubleshoot customer and user issues in real time with the Support Team to ensure timely resolution of issues * Represent ALTR at trade shows, webinars, local meet ups and on-site with customers to ensure customers and users are comfortable using ALTR * Document and track individual work done in tools like JIRA and Confluence * Take ownership of projects from conceptual phases to completion * Deliver feedback internally regarding your observations of our product (and others) in the field Requirements * Bachelor's degree in a computer or software related field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.). Exceptions to be made for candidates with considerable and demonstrable subject matter expertise and/or experience. * 0-3 years of experience * Ability to be language agnostic - many integrations will only work if written in certain languages, being bound to just one language is not appropriate for this role * Ability to read and understand software as well and as quickly as you can write it * Ability to use AWS cloud services to build solutions (API Gateway, Lambda, SQS, S3) * Experience with source code repository * Understanding of Infrastructure as Code and DevOps tools like Terraform, GitLab CI Pipelines and similar * Ability to interface with APIs for integrating products and creating automated scripts * Ability to interact with both external and internal customers to help explain, demonstrate how to use ALTRs features and enable customers to self-service * Understanding of databases and how SQL queries are processed * The ability to review, understand and create architecture diagrams and related material * Travel: Willingness to travel for conferences, company, and customer meetings * Reliable Connectivity: Must have access to dependable internet and phone services * Hybrid: This roles does have on-site expectations What are we looking for in a Field Engineer? The expectation is that the Field Engineer can use the resources to achieve stated objectives with a high level of autonomy. * Be business-aware - understand how value is created, how you will individually create value and how we can translate our product's value into customer solutions. * Be curious - if you find yourself wondering how a piece of software works and always wanting to gain an understanding of what's possible with a given technology, you are likely a good candidate to be a Field Engineer. * Be collaborative - knowledge silos are not something that we practice in ALTR; your teammates and leaders will always help you and the expectation is that you will participate in that culture. * Be able to view the product from the perspective of the customer, for better and for worse - use that perspective to help the customer understand how to achieve their goals, empathize with a customer when the solution is suboptimal and translate the perspective to other stakeholders internally to make us better. * Not afraid to fail, is able to understand why failure occurred, and how to correct for the future.
